The base for this post is Daisy Hill Hospital and the Community Paediatric Department, John Mitchell Place, Newry however the post holder may be required to work on any site within the Southern Health and Social Care Trust REPORTS TO: Dr James Hughes – Clinical Director – Community Paediatrics Dr Julie Lewis- Clinical Director- General Paediatrics RESPONSIBLE TO: Dr Ahmed Khan – Associate Medical Director – Children & Young People Services ACCOUNTABLE TO: Mr Paul Morgan – Director of Children & Young People Services The Trust is seeking candidates with an interest in Community Paediatrics but would be supportive of a candidate without extensive experience in this area but would be willing to develop or enhance such expertise. SUMMARY OF POST: The post holder will participate in a 1: 8 on-call (covering weekend and overnight on- call services) and Consultant of the week in the Children’s Ward 1 week in 7 Current pay supplement: 5% The post will attract a salary of £80,253 - £108,200 per annum. This is a full-time position, however anyone interested in working part-time / job share is also welcome to apply. Annual leave will be 32 days per annum initially rising to 34 days after 7 years’ seniority, plus 10 statutory and public holidays. The post also has an attractive study leave entitlement of up to 30 days paid leave with expenses in any period of three years. A relocation package may also be available if required. The Southern Trust has established a dedicated revalidation support team which ensures all doctors have an annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and supports all doctors through the revalidation process. The Trust has also appointed corporate, Consultant and SAS Leads for appraisal and revalidation. The Trust supports the requirements for continuing professional development (CPD) as laid down by the GMC and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities. This makes it much easier for doctors to maintain an up to date job plan to ensure they are paid correctly and to support the revalidation and appraisal process. As well as Corporate and Departmental Induction each new permanent medical employee will have an opportunity to have an informal meeting with the Medical Director at the end of month three / four of commencement with the Trust during which time they can explore the option of job shadowing a non-clinical manager within their speciality for a morning / afternoon. This will be facilitated via the relevant Associate Medical Director. There is also a fully embedded revalidation and appraisal process which supports all doctors with all of their appraisal and revalidation requirements. Opportunities also exist for doctors to avail of the Trust medical mentoring scheme. Craigavon Area Hospital & Daisy Hill Hospital provide acute Paediatric services across the SHSCT. There are extended paediatric ambulatory services available on both sites and in South Tyrone Hospital. The Childrens and Young Peoples Directorate is in the middle of an ambitious plan to further develop & enhance Paediatric services in Craigavon and Daisy Hill. There are new children’s units on both sites with single room accommodation for all inpatients. There is elective paediatric surgical and ENT services in Daisy Hill Hospital and enhanced ambulatory services on both sites. Community Paediatrics: Community Paediatric services in the SHSCT are based in John Mitchell Place, Newry; Children’s Centre, Lurgan; and Victoria House, Tower Hill, Armagh. The Community part of this post is based in John Mitchell Place, Newry. There is a plan in place to build a new Care and Treatment centre in Newry and it is anticipated on completion that Community Paediatrics will be accommodated on that site. Outpatient clinics take place mainly on these 3 sites but there are outlying clinics for some specialist services on other sites throughout the trust. The final job plan and allocation of clinics will depend on the post holder’s special interests and expertise within the specialisms of Community Child Health. The area Child Development Wraparound Clinic (CDC) is based on the Lurgan hospital site with outlying clinics in Newry and Armagh. It is a Consultant led multidisciplinary service for preschool children with complex neurodevelopmental problems. Dr David Graham and Dr Jonny Boyd provide this service across the trust. The successful post holder will contribute to this service in the Newry locality. A Multidisciplinary Autism Spectrum Disorder Diagnostic Clinic is based in the Oak Centre in Armagh and community paediatricians refer children for assessment to this service. The Trust has developed an ADHD service which is multidisciplinary and community paediatricians contribute to these assessments. The Trust has invested recently in the formation of integrated care teams in each locality which are PAMS personnel and part of their role is to provide a support service for children with complex disabilities discharged from hospital and also to provide an integrated multidisciplinary assessment service at initial referral to Community Paediatrics. The post holder will be expected to work closely with this service. Community Paediatricians contribute to the assessment and management of children with safeguarding issues as part of the multidisciplinary team. Community Paediatricians are expected to attend Child Protection Case Conferences, carry out examinations for Safeguarding purposes and provide reports to Social Services as required for their patients. There is a named Doctor and a named nurse for safeguarding in the SHSCT.
