This is the second in a sacred video game series. It is a prequel that takes place 2,000 years before the events of the Sacred. Like its predecessor, the game takes place in a fantasy setting. The new game engine allows the game to be rendered in perspective correctly 3D while retaining a point of view in old isometric games. Video game designer Bob Bates was involved in its production. Power metal band Blind Guardian wrote the song Sacred Worlds as a theme for the game, and also appeared as characters. The PC version was released in late 2008, console versions were delayed until 2009, and the drives were pressed in April 2009 for May releases, and in April developer Ascaron went into administration, citing expanded development as a reason. The add-on called Ice and Blood was released on October 2 only for European PC players. Support for the U.S. PC version has been taken over by Deep Silver, although all support for current and future extensions and console versions in the U.S. has been discontinued. A plot of mysterious and volatile substances called T-Energy is the source of life and magic in Ankara. Initially, it was exclusively under the control of the ancient Serafim race. All versions contain the same content, with the exception of the Xbox 360 pre-order. While design, world map and multiplayer games were highly appreciated, general criticisms were directed at visual effects and technical glitches, as well as a lack of character settings and mostly female, gender-fixed classes.
