The event witnessed the participation of 150 delegates and leading Neuroscience and Ophthalmology professionals. This included a team from the University of Melbourne's Department of Optometry & Vision Sciences, consisting of Professor Trichur R.Vidyasagar, head of the Visual and Cognitive Neuroscience Unit, Associate Professor Allison Mckendrick, who heads the Clinical Psychophysics Unit, Associate Professor Andrew Metha, whose lab images living retinas, Dr Andrew Anderson, whose Optological Unit studies perimetry, eye movements and neural decision making and Dr Bang Participants at the Vision and Visual Neuroscience Workshop Bui, head of the Ocular Physiology Unit that studies risk factors in glaucoma and diabetes. Visual Neuroscience at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore was represented by Professor Govindarajan Rangarajan, Department of Mathematics and coordinator, DST Centre for Mathematical Biology and Dr S.P.Arun, Assistant Professor & Wellcome - DBT Intermediate Fellow, Center for Neuroscience. The first day of the event witnessed in-depth lectures on a wide array of topics in vision and visual neuroscience and the second day began with a tour of the clinical science and basic science research departments of Sankara Nethralaya. On Day 3, the workshop provided the students and faculty members of the ESO an opportunity to listen to lectures pertaining to various topics in ophthalmology and neuroscience by the Melbourne colleagues and also for pursuing higher studies at the University of Melbourne. Sankara Nethralaya defines the Art and Science of Ophthalmic Imaging It was day of fulfillment for 8 years of dedicated labour for an institution in the forefront of leveraging technology to detect, diagnose and interpret diagnostic intricacies. The occasion was the book launch of the 'Atlas of Imaging in Ophthalmology' co-authored by Dr S.Ambika,Director, Neuro-Ophthalmology Department, Dr.Veena Noronha, Consultant Radiologist and Dr. Padmaja Minakshisundaram, Neuro-Ophthalmologist at the Sri VD.Swami Auditorium. Extending a warm welcome to the Chief Guest of the day Dr G.Arjundas, Professor Emeritus, Madras Medical College and the other eminent Neuro- surgeons Dr Suresh Bapu, Dr. Balamurugan, Apollo Specialty Hospital, Chennai, Dr Siddharth Ghosh, Oncologist from Kharaghpur, Dr Smitha Vittal the day's presenter explained that the book is a work on Ophthalmology, Participants at the launch of Atlas of Imaging in Ophthalmology Oncology and Radiology. Describing the book as a rich repertoire of cases compiled from year 2002, she added that the highlight of the book was its foreword by Professor Neil Miller, Chief, Neuro-ophthalmology Division at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the famous 'The John Hopkins School of Medicine', Baltimore, USA. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Veena Noronha thanked the Senior Management team for the support extened towards bringing the book. Dr. Ambika observed that Orbit and Neuro- imaging have brought revolutionary changes in ophthalmic imaging. Releasing the first copy of the book, the Chief Guest of the day, veteran Neuro-Surgeon and physician Dr.S. Arjundas lauded the sincere efforts of the team which had most painstakingly recorded huge data. The interesting launch function ended with a surprise gift to Co-authors Dr S.Ambika and Dr. Veena Noronha by the esteemed Chief Guest. eyelights June 2014 XI Dr.Nagamani Dharmapuri Endowment Lecture In what could be construed as an unmistakable sign of its growing relevance the Dr. Nagamani Dharmapuri Endowment Lecture found a prestigious co-sponsor for its xi edition in the Madras Ophthalmological Association. Delivering the welcome address Ms Jameel Rizwana Hussain,ESO underlined that visual morbidity was seen increasing in children. Dr Sumitha Agarkar, Deputy Director, Pediatric Ophthalmology observed that according to the WHO there were 12 million children partially or fully vision impaired. Speaking on the occasion Dr R.Srikanth, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Ophthalmology recalled the contribution of Dr TS.Surendran, Vice Chairman, who single handedly operated the pediatric ophthalmology department for two decades. Felicitating the Guest of Honour Dr J. Radhakrishnan, State Health Dr. Monte Del Monte, Director of Pediatric ophthalmology, Secretary, Dr T.S.Surendran described the popular Civil Servant as Mott Children's Hospital at XI Dr.Nagamani Dharmapuri a man who rises to great heights of service during calamities and a Endowment Lecture Collector who has been consistently recognized as 'Best Collector' for 4 times.
