Alpha concurs on the magnitude of this statement and strives to impact the lives of the students under its fold with positive and transforming learning experiences. The holistic intervention in education is imperative at every growth phase of the student. We are thus constantly striving to provide a conducive environment to create a balance in the academic, emotional, spiritual, creative and physical development of students. We believe that in today’s world where change is constant and fast paced, we need to as educators, adapt to the continuous innovative and improvised models and trends in education research . This helps us to deliver quality of highest standards and provide a firm foundation for the holistic development of our students. The learning environment in the classroom is also aimed at teachers being sensitive to the various needs of the different learners, in particular to students with learning challenges and slow learners. Mrs. Shynu John Principal THE ALPHA SCHOOL, PORUR: Alpha School, Porur was established in the year 2014 and is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education. The school adopts unique pedagogies to help students equip themselves in all domains of learning in accordance with the various contemporary educational systems in the world. The management takes keen interest in the overall development of the students and provides numerous opportunities to each child to explore their inner strength and talents through a number of co-curricular activities. The school has received numerous accolades and works with a team of smart and dedicated faculty members under the guidance of eminent Chairperson Dr. Mrs. Grace George and Mrs.Suja George, Vice Chairperson. The goal of the school is to build strong individuals who make a difference in the society around them. INNOVATIVE PEDAGOGY IN PLAY SCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN: “Catch them Young” is what we say at Alpha School, Porur by giving the tiny tots the very best in their early years of education. Here we insist not just on learning by doing but it’s one more step ahead, it’s learning by playing. A number of teaching learning activities such as learning number names through hide and seek, a leap and a jump, identifying fruits and vegetables by blind folding (touch and feel), lacing the beads, imagination of stories, play house, mirror reactions by facial expressions, role play, puppet play, tracing with sand paper are some of the initiatives taken towards innovative teaching methods for the children we love the most. PRIMARY AND MIDDLE SCHOOL: Our primary and middle school follows curriculums which provide a hands-on approach to students, thus ensuring opportunities for creative expression and developing skills of reflective thinking, observation & experimentation. Alpha gives immense importance to the curriculum that are followed and makes sure that they are surely one of a kind. Chrysalis is an interesting curriculum followed by the students of our school from kindergarten to Grade V. Chrysalis includes several highly effective strategies such as spaced practice, retrieval practice, elaboration, interleafing and dual coding. The teachers also go through regular training sessions through professional development programmes in order to equip themselves with the emerging teaching strategies. The students from classes VI - VIII follow the Xseed curriculum, an innovative pedagogy designed to raise the level of learning in classrooms and build confidence in children. Xseed follows the proven 5–step experiential learning method where concepts are taught through hands-on experimentation followed by questioning, application and feedback. This replaces the one-step ‘telling and memorization’ technique followed in many traditional classrooms. Students learn Second Language from UKG. They can choose either Hindi or Tamil as their second language till class V. From class VI they also have the option of French. Students from class I – VIII have third language as part of their curriculum. SECONDARY AND SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL: The Secondary and Senior Secondary students of Alpha School, Porur have a holistic growth at school where they learn independently; develop resilience, confidence and maturity before stepping out into the world.
