The event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Anasazi Heritage Center, 27501 Highway 184, Dolores. Admission will be free, and refreshments will be served. Held in fall 2013 at Lowry Pueblo near Pleasant View, the Museum on the Ground program provided an introduction to Southwest archaeology and history for more than 200 fourth-grade students from seven local schools. The students learned about the people who had lived at the pueblo nearly a thousand years ago. Crow Canyon educators, Anasazi Heritage Center staff and volunteers, and members of the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe shared their knowledge of ancestral Pueblo and Ute culture and history. The program emphasized the importance of respecting and preserving archaeological sites. The exhibition, which will run through April 12, will feature students’ work, including field books and posters emphasizing important themes of Museum on the Ground, as well as photos taken during the event. Museum on the Ground is a collaborative educational program of Crow Canyon and the Anasazi Heritage Center and was supported in part by funding from the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management, and History Colorado State Historical Fund. For more information about the Crow Canyon Archaeological Center and its educational programs, contact Director of Education Kathy Stemmler at [email protected].
