The idea is to train us to have the courage to enter new Episode IV, in which Luke Skywalker is territory, intellectually and emotionally. trying unsuccessfully to split a floating and dancing orb with his lightsaber. Seeing his Saturday night, as Shabbat ends, we try to bring some of this frustration, Obiwan Kanobi suggests he try courage into the week ahead. We ask God to give us the courage it blindfolded. “Let go your conscious self, to let go of our need for pre-determined outcomes. We remember Luke,” says Obiwan. And, sure enough, this that Jewish history began with the journey of Abraham who was time, Luke succeeds. brave enough to follow God “to a land I will show you”, that is, a direction without a fixed destination point. Leschi Elementary School Back to School Shopping Co-sponsored by HNT & SJCC's SixthirTEENS We will once again be donating over 100 grade-specific filled backpacks for homeless students, and we need your help to fill them! When you are back to school shopping with your kids, put an extra set of items in your cart. We encourage you to use this opportunity to educate your kids about other children 7 miles from HNT who struggle to have the basics we sometimes take for granted. Please use the list to the right as a guideline, with items of greatest need at the top. In August, volunteer to help assemble backpack supplies! Check h-nt.org/volunteers for the August date. Tutor a Child, Change Their World Tutors are needed to help students at Leschi Elementary with math and reading. You do not need a background in teaching to volunteer, but we need tutors who can volunteer on a regular basis with one or two students. This consistency means kids and tutors can get to know and bond with one another. If you are interested in tutoring, email Linda Krisher at [email protected].
