Procedure 1. Check in all objects. 2. Use the SDL Contenta Server Platform Requirements to verify the hardware and software system requirements. 3. Use the SDL Contenta Server Platform Requirements to determine the version of Perl for the Contenta version to which you are upgrading. If this Contenta version requires a newer version of Perl than your current version, remove any older versions of Perl before you upgrade. Note: Contenta 5.7 installs Strawberry Perl in its own install location and does not support Ac- tiveState Perl. Before removing ActiveState Perl, make sure no other Software is dependent on it, for example, SDL XPP. 4. Upgrade and configure your Oracle software and database to the required version and patch set level. Refer to these topics, as well as to your Oracle database vendor documentation for more information on how to upgrade. 5. Perform the following backup operations: • When not in use, back up the Contenta database using your database backup utility. • Back up your site's custom Contenta tools and scripts. • From the setup/ subdirectory of your Contenta home directory, back up your current custom- ized pdm_setup.sql file. 6. Check and note down the name of the ODBC DBS by opening your Windows Control Panel, then selecting Administrative Tools > Data Sources (ODBC) > System DSN. 7. If you are upgrading from a Contenta release older than 5.5, obtain a license file. 8. Stop the PcmPortal service by opening your Windows Control Panel and selecting Administrative Tools > Services. Find the Windows service called XyEnterprise Contenta Server and stop it. 9. If you are upgrading from Contenta 5.4 or earlier, uninstall the MKS Toolkit by opening your Windows Control Panel and selecting Add/Remove Programs > MKS Platform components 9.x. 10. Check any remaining directories and files that were not deleted, and remove them. 11. Using the Registry Editor, check the following registry entry to verify that the Nutcracker registry key is not present: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Data Focus. You should not find an entry called NutCRACKER OE in this location. 12. If you want to configure your system for use in a Citrix environment, refer to the three files in the distr/citrix/ sbudirectory of your Contenta home directory, specifically the file CitrixX11Startup. pdf (titled Configuring Citrix server to run XPP/Contenta via a Citrix client using published applications). This document explains how to run SDL Contenta using a Citrix client workstation. 13. Reboot your system and make sure there are no applications running. The upgrade may raise an error if files are in use by an application. 2 SDL Contenta Server Upgrade Guide for Windows Preparing for your upgrade 1 Upgrading or installing Oracle Perform a set of upgrade or installation steps if you do not have the Oracle release and patches listed in the SDL Contenta Platform Requirements installed on your database server, Contenta Server and/or Contenta Client workstation. Procedure 1. Use the instructions provided by Oracle to upgrade the Oracle Server software on your Oracle database server. 2. Use the instructions provided by Oracle to upgrade the Oracle Client software on your Contenta Server and on the Contenta Client workstations that have Contenta Administrative tools and Reports installed. By default, the upgrade is performed with the NCHAR datatype set to AL16UTF16. Only change this datatype if you have confirmation from an SDL Customer Support representative that your preferred datatype is supported. 3. On your Contenta Server and Contenta Client workstations, use the Oracle Net Assistant to verify that a service entry exists for Oracle. If this is not the case, use the Assistant to update the file tnsnames.ora. Refer to Oracle documentation for additional information. Provide the following information: Net8 Description Assistant Add New Defined by the user. This value must not contain a hyphen. Service Protocol Set to TCP/IP. Host Name The name of the database server on which the Contenta Oracle instance (SID) resides. Port Number The Oracle default port number, unless your database administrator instructs you otherwise. Service The name of the Contenta Oracle instance (SID). Name 4. After installing the Oracle Patch Set, execute the Oracle database upgrade utility, dbua, to complete the patch installation process. 5. Restart the Oracle Server server. 6. Test the Oracle connectivity between your database clients and the database server. 7. If you intend to use the dbimport.pl tool to create your database instance before importing the Oracle .dmp file, the Oracle database administrator must set the deferred_segment_creation property to false
