That pretty much sums up February. They’re great helps to get us through what I think for most people is thankfully the shortest month of the year. For us as Catholics, February marks the first leg of our journey through the mysteries of Christ’s public ministry that we embark on during Ordinary Time. This time of the liturgical year is not “ordinary” in the sense of being “commonplace” or “humdrum,” but ordinary in the Latin sense of giving “order” to our lives. As we shape our lives “according to the order” of Jesus Christ, we are filled and renewed by his life-giving Holy Spirit. That’s why we wear green vestments during this season – to indicate the newness of life that comes in being a disciple of Christ. Being a “disciple” takes “discipline” – the words are clearly related. But with Christ as our coach, we couldn’t have a more encouraging and wise trainer. He changes our very identity and adopts us as beloved sons as he joins us in the work of our sanctification. This all starts at our Baptism, which makes Supreme Chaplain Archbishop Lori’s challenge for this month quite fitting: “This month I challenge you to hear the Heavenly Father saying these words – “you are my beloved son” – personally to you, and reflect on your identity in him. I recommend that you do so, if possible, in Eucharistic Adoration. Secondly I challenge you to spend time with someone who loves you unconditionally. Ask them why? Their answer should give you a small glimpse of God’s unconditional love for you.” Christ’s peace, Fr. March 26, 2019 Public Service Night: Council 664 will show our thanks as we will host a night of friendship, including a free meal in appreciation to our Police Officers from the Cities and County villages, the County Sheriff’s Department, the local State Patrol District Officers, Game Wardens, Fire Fighters, be they employed full time or from our many fine volunteer Fire Departments in the County, The Flight for Life Crews, and staff at the 911 Dispatch Center. We will have a guest speaker, (Frank Buress) who will be presenting on the cause and effect of the current Opioid crisis. Frank serves on various Boards, Committees, Advisory Groups including the Wisconsin State Council on Alcohol and other Drug Abuse Prevention Committee. Additional information on Frank's experience will follow in the February Newsletter. Jerry Lauby, Event Chairman Fourth Degree News You are invite to attend the February 21st Flag Appreciation Dinner at the KC Hall. The evening begins with a social hour and hors d’ oeuvres at 5:30 PM; dinner 6:30 PM followed by our flag program. Following dinner, guest speaker for the evening will be Sam Floyd. Sam’s program is roasting coffee to raise awareness of veteran suicide epidemic; this is his mission and business, Operation Coffee. Sam is from Campbellsport. We will also distribute flags to various organizations from Fond du Lac and the surrounding area. Cost of the dinner is $14.00 per person. Reservations can be made by calling Dave Reilly at 920-251-6173. This program is an offspring from our Flag Appreciation Weekend which was held in September when monies were collected from the distribution of flag lapel pins. Please support this project presented by the 4th Degree. Again, all members of the Knights of Columbus are invited this evening. Fraternally, Rick Jaeger, Faithful Navigator MEMBERSHIP NEWS Brother Knights, the annual dues statements have been mailed and you should be seeing them soon. There are a number of past due members which need attention. If you wish to retain your membership, please make arrangements to get caught up. The club has a financial responsibility for each member and those with unpaid dues place a financial strain on the club finances. If you do not wish to retain your membership, please sign on the dues form indicating so and send it back to us. Supreme Council will not let us drop a member without the member's signature. By consenting to discontinue, you will help us save money for the important work we do as Knights. Thank you for your careful consideration. Any questions contact our Membership Chairman - Brian Carter. 539-6735 Ladies Auxiliary News: The KC Ladies auxiliary Christmas party chaired by Erin Cobb opened with prayer by Joann Mischo. Fr. Marc Boisvert thanked the ladies for a donation to aid with his work in Haiti. A delicious lunch of chicken, rice and green beans with Christmas cookies and mint ice cream was served. A basket was passed for donations for the Christmas family and over $400.00 was collected and the board matched those funds. $300.00 was donated to “WI Right to Life”. A sign-up sheet was passed to help provide a meal for the warming shelter. If anyone would still like a polo shirt, see Cheri Sheehy. A reminder to pay membership dues to Beth Puddy and bring soaps, shampoos, eye glasses and old nylon slips/nightgowns. There is no meeting in January and the next meeting is on Feb. 6. We will be making rosaries with Karen Schreiner. Stations of the Cross will be said at the March 13 meeting and the annual birthday dinner will be on Wed., April 3. The raffle winner was Ann Kaiser. Lighted Christmas trees were given as door prizes. Meetings are the 2nd Tuesday: Feb 12th, Mar 12th, Apr 9th, and May 14th last day Qualifications: Knight must be a 664 member with dues paid to date/Knight is expected to advance in degrees Knight is required to be involved in 1 activity per year/Application will not be mailed out!! If you are unable to attend, the applicant must meet in person with a Tuition grant committee member.
