Callbook 2007/2008: What a debacle, and all because Radio Spectrum Group gave us a copy of the database they thought was correct. Yes all information published is sent direct from them. How could we know after all these years of requesting this information and being given it on the proviso that nothing is amended in accordance with the Privacy Act, that it would create such a furor! To say that I have been disappointed, by members and non-members comments is an understatement. I have received unkind and absolute rude comments regarding this years production of call book as has NZART President Bruce ZL2WP, and in many of the cases ownership of the information printed, rests entirely with you. Many times I have advised, if you have changed address or require your details to be withheld, that RSM need to be advised also. Or better still contact them and update your own records. Included with this issue of Info-line is a 'how to update your records' produced for you by Tony ZL1UD. For me this will be the last time I will print this information, I cannot be held responsible for incorrect errors to addresses. Now for those of you who requested your details be withheld - please contact RSM directly as I will no longer enter into discussion in this regard. Phone number 04 472 0030. Membership Promo: Many of you will be aware that NZART Council approved a membership promotional offer to all amateurs. This required again receiving a copy of the information held by Radio Spectrum and comparing it with records we have. NZART database is not equipped to record two call signs, therefore those who hold a primary and secondary call sign and are already members, may have received this special offer by mistake. I apologise if this has happened, however again, to review some 4500 amateurs throughout New Zealand takes a bit of work. Again there is no need to send in rude comments on the application form, not only wasting my time, but also postage costs. Those of you who are guilty of this will I am sure have considered this and penalised us over a small oversight. Furthermore, there are a number of silent keys whose partners received this letter. While we are going to be writing directly to these people to have them relinquish the call sign, if you know of anyone who has recently become a silent key, please ask the spouse or partner to let me know. I need to receive from them in writing, whether the call sign can be removed or if a family member wishes to take it over. Better data integrity can be maintained providing information is passed on to the correct places. Sorry about the negativity of my bit this issue - but I can assure you I have doubted whether my worth as your Business Manager has come to an end.
