An extraordinarily accomplished artist, she has been painting for over 25 years. Beginning as a landscape painter, she quickly transitioned to an immersion in all genres to experiment and learn. Initially, Alonzo was torn between professions - the arts or a career in architecture. She chose the arts, graduating from San Jose State University in San Jose, California with a degree in Interior Design. After working in this field and ultimately heading her own design firm, her focus turned to the creation of fine art. Under the mentorship of Richard Lees (artist and art historian of Pasadena, California), Alonzo was encouraged toward honesty in her painting without judgment, without expectation, and without the confines of outside demanding interests. APÉRO Catalogue Emotion - July 2018 4 Jacqueline Alvarino Salacia’s Cry, 2018 Acrylic 16 x 20 in $300 Jacqueline Alvarino Brea, California, USA 714-404-3199 [email protected] https://www.behance.net/jacalvaarta4d6 Jacqueline Alvarino Biography: Jacqueline Alvarino, known as Jac Alva Art, is a Southern California-based painter who creates mixed media abstract designs. She has presented her artistic material in Orange County and Los Angeles including The Muckenthaler Cultural Center, The Exchange, and The Vortex. Although the subject matter of her art work varies topically, one pervasive theme underlies all of it: introspection. She believes that all of life is divided into three forms of personal interaction: what others do to us; what we do to others; and what we do to ourselves. With an emphatic heart and sensitive approach, she paints dense psychological themes in the hopes of providing validation and catharsis to the audience. Essentially, Jacqueline seeks to create art encouraging emotional self-awareness, and promoting dialogue about the painful side of human behavior. Jacqueline enjoys utilizing an array of classic painting tools as well as homemade utensils including her own hands. These tools allow her to apply gestural brushstrokes and organic shapes onto the canvas. She is well-known for her rhythmic layering and repetitive application of vibrant colors. Her unconventional methods of abstract painting provide her with the vehicle to channel her inner psyche onto the canvas. As she often says: “You are not just buying a painting. You are buying a process. You are collecting an emotional journey.” APÉRO Catalogue Emotion - July 2018 6 Fatima J. Atallah rd 3 Fallen Dreams, 2018 Oil 27 x 27 in POR Fatima J. This emotive and graceful familial work, delicately exposes an internal narrative and embraces memory in an open and reflective manner. - E.E.
