Only those items that could be considered "articles" were included, excluding such items as letters to the editors, book reviews, etc. The table of contents is the main avenue of access, dividing the annotations into sections and categories. When an article has more than one major emphasis, it is cross-referenced. The annotations are intended to amplify the titles and briefly describe the content and emphasis of the articles. There are two indexes included: the "Literary Works and Their Authors," which provides quick access to articles discussing particular works or authors, and an "Author Index," which is an alphabetical list of the authors of the articles annotated.
