The left- hander surrendered six hits and allowed three runs. The Captains, however, defeated the Lugnuts thanks to four unearned runs. Lansing shortstop Kevin Vicuna committed four errors and the Captains won, 4-3. LAST SEASON: Perez posted another strong season, as he made his debut in the Short-Season New York- Penn League. The lefty posted a 3.28 ERA and finished among the league’s 10 best in ground ball percentage (52.7%) and BABIP (.263). IN THE PARK: Perez gave up just one home run in his first two years of professional baseball. Over 114.1 innings in the Dominican Summer League and the Arizona League, the only man to homer off of Perez was Dodgers prospect Jeffrey Souffront on August 11, 2016. Perez surrendered five home runs last year with Mahoning Valley. GROUND BALL PITCHER: Perez turned in the ninth-highest ground ball rate in the New York-Penn League last year (52.7%) Perhaps as a result of this high GB%, Perez allowed the fifth-lowest batting average on balls in play (BABIP) in the league (.263).
