Unfortunately due to logistical problems given the quick turnaround of games, and my having to combine the roles of Programme Editor with that of Covid 19 Officer for the club, I have had to produce the programme for tonight’s game before last Saturday’s match against Penybont. So apologies for the lack of reaction to that result and the out of date league table. This is the second of three consecutive home games we have been faced with following the resumption of the league, with Caernarfon due here on Saturday. In order to complete our phase 1 fixtures we then have a really tough run of fixtures, away to Penybont, home to The New Saints and away to Bala. Notwithstanding tonight’s encounter with our neighbours and the current reigning champions of course ! So, it could well be that with things being so close down at the bottom, by the time Phase 1 is complete, we might find ourselves in a slightly worse position in the league than we were before the restart. However, Neil Gibson is an extremely experienced manager, and he won’t let that distract him, as he is well aware the key to our survival success is going to be picking up points in Phase 2, and that’s where the real challenges will await us. Of course, if we manage to pick up a few useful points during the remainder of Phase 1, so much the better. It’s a real shame that no fans will be allowed in to witness the game, as it would no doubt have been a great atmosphere and occasion. Come on the Silkmen !! HannahBlythynMS [email protected] @HannahBlythyn 38 Church Street, Flint, CH6 5AE Hannah_Blythyn 01352 762102 FROM THE CHAIRMAN A very warm welcome to our colleagues, players and officials from the old enemy down the road. This is written before the Pen-y-Bont game, I hope we gave a good account of ourselves, giving us hope and optimism before this tough encounter with the Nomads. The reverse fixture at the Deeside Stadium saw us lose but generally we showed determination and resolve. Tonight of course we field a hugely changed team to when we played Nomads last. Neil Gibson and his management team will have us well drilled for tonight as he takes on his respective colleague, Andy Morrison. Saturday sees the return of Nathan Craig as we welcome Caernarfon for our third home game on the run. With an away fixture to follow at Pen-y- Bont this gives our newly formed squad the opportunity to get a decent amount of points on the door. The pandemic has led to a crazy year not least in football. Our aim is to consolidate, to stay up and to have a right crack at it next season, with lots of people watching! Personally I’m really looking forward to managing the team in my first experience of a Flintshire derby and will be impressing onto our lads the importance of the game to everyone at our club. Having spent eleven weeks with no game, we are right back into the action with this game coming just 75 hours after our Penybont fixture, but rest assured that the players will be fully prepared and ready to face the challenge that the Nomads will bring against us this evening. What we certainly know about Connah’s Quay is that they are an excellent team who are tremendously well managed by Andy Morrison, who in turn has a great backroom staff around him. I speak from experience, having been part of the group myself for twelve months a few years ago. I really enjoyed my time there and have fond memories of the success we enjoyed during my stint, winning the Welsh Cup and beating Falkirk away in the Iron Bru Cup being some of the standout moments. With this in mind I know a lot of the players and staff at Connah’s Quay and we have to respect the fact that it is the current league champions who are visiting today. Nevertheless, this is an exciting opportunity for our new set of players to embrace the challenge and to test ourselves this evening. From the experience, I hope to gauge just what this group of lads is capable of achieving. We have a strong game plan that we have prepared for and believe that we can cause Nomads some problems. It should make for an extremely entertaining match.
