THE NETHERLANDS Rob Frambach - Race Director Finally, the time has come: an IRONMAN 70.3 in the beautiful city of Maastricht. We are delighted to welcome you to the first edition of IRONMAN 70.3 Maastricht - Limburg. We will work together with you to make a celebration out of it! However, we must consider the measures to be taken to safely organize the event. In the coming period we will elaborate this for you and communicate what you can expect in a timely manner. The IRONMAN 70.3 Maastricht - Limburg is organized in a region with a rich IRONMAN history. From 2015 to 2018, the IRONMAN Maastricht - Limburg long-distance triathlon took place here. After the disappearance of the long distance, IRONMAN The Netherlands has continued with the IRONMAN 4:18:4 and IRONMAN 5150. More than 50 percent of the athletes who participated in one of the shorter distances now participate in the IRONMAN 70.3 Maastricht - Limburg. Finally, we express our deepest gratitude for your trust and patience. Also, a heartfelt ‘thank you’ for our hostess, the municipality of Maastricht, the entire team, the suppliers and other partners who have worked with heart and soul to make sure the participants will have an unforgettable weekend. The city is in my heart Welcome athletes to this special city. The place where I won my first IRONMAN, a day I will never forget. I am very honored to be able to work as an ambassador for IRONMAN The Netherlands in the coming years! Triathlon, what a unique sport it is and what a great passion we share! We all train hard to be able to deli- ver this tough physical and mental performance. We are all going through the same thing and we share our enthusiasm and our adventures. In the coming months I will try to further amplify the pure and deep feelings we all experience so that during one of the IRONMAN competitions such as IRONKIDS, in a sprint, 5i50 or IRONMAN 70.3 competition, you will create memories on which you can always look back on and inspire others! I see the ambassadorship as an opportunity to create more attention for our sport and for sports in ge- neral. Unfortunately, 50% of the Dutch population over the age of 18 is moderately or seriously obese and 45% of the Dutch do not participate in sports every week. I find this shocking! Sports means, among other things, being fitter, having more energy, being more productive and living a happier life. In addition to my personal athletic goals, I see it as a mission to get people moving and to let them expe- rience the effect of sports. IRONMAN Netherlands organizes events accessible to everyone. I would love to bring the not yet active athletes together and become part of the IRONMAN family! After a period in which sport was unfortunately not encouraged by the government and many of us were unable to do anything, we now have the opportunity to organize events again. The start line of the IRONMAN Maastricht is in sight and we can go wild! We all did everything we could to be as fit as possible at the start. I can’t wait to see you race and cheer to the finish! If you see me walking around, I would really like it when you come up to me for a chat! Also, I want to tell everyone to believe in yourself.
