Mawlid Al-Nabi Celebrating Our Messenger

Mawlid al-Nabi Celebrating Our Messenger The Burda of Imam al-Busiri Mawlya ßallı wa sallim d√iman abadan. Al ˛abıbika khayr al‐khalqi kullihimi. My Lord send blessings and peace always forever. Upon your beloved, thebest of all creation. Amin tadhakuri jırnin bi dhı salami. Mazajta daman jar min muqlatin bidami. Is it because of your memory of the neighbours of Dhi‐Salam (a village), that tears mixed with blood are wept? Am habbat al‐rıhu min tilq√i k÷imatin. Aw awma∂al‐barqu fil‐÷alm√ı min i∂ami. Or is it due to the breeze blowing from Ka÷ima (another village), or it is lightning from the darkness of the I∂am? Fa m li aynayka in qulta kfuf hamat. Wa m li qalbika in qult astafiq yahimi. What happened to your eyes? The more you tell them to stop, the more they cry. And your heart? The more you tell it to come to its senses, the more it is distracted. Aya˛sibu al‐ßabbu ann al‐˛ubba munkatimun. M bayna munsajimin minhu wa mu∂†arimi. Does the lover think that his love can be concealed, while his eyes are shedding tears and his heart is glowing? Law l al‐haw lam turiq daman al †alalin. Wa l ariqta li dhikr al‐bni wal‐alami. Had it not been for love, you wouldn’t have shed tears at the ruins of your beloved. Nor would you become restless at the rememb‐rance of the cypress tree (beauty) or the mountains (majesty). Fa kayfa tunkiru ˛ubban bada m shahidat. Bihi alayka udülul‐damı wal‐saqami. How do you deny love after the testimony borne against you by two upright witnesses: your tears and your love‐sickness. Wa athbat al‐wajdu kha††ay abratin wa ∂an. Mithlal bahrial khaddayka wal‐anami. Love has etched two lines of grief on your cheeks (from tears) like yellow rose & the reddish tree. Naam sar †ayfu man ahw fa arraqanı. Wal‐˛ubbu yatari∂ul‐ladhdhti bil‐alami. Yes! Thoughts of the beloved came to me at night and kept me awake. Love transforms pleasure to pain. q Y l√imı fil‐hawl‐udhriyyi madhiratan. Minnı ilayka wa law anßafta lam talumi. Oh you who blame me for my love, pardon me. I say: if you were fair, you would not blame me. Adatka ˛lı wa l sirrı bimustatirin. An al‐wushti wa l d√ı bi mun˛asimi. My state of love has been expressed to you. Now my secret is no longer concealed from those who malign me, nor is there anything to keep my agony in check. Ma˛a∂tanıl‐nu߲a lkin lastu asmauhu. Inn al‐mu˛ibba an al‐udhdhli fı ßamami. You sincerely advised me, but I did not heed it, for verily a lover is deaf to those who advise him. Innı ittahamtu naßı˛ al‐shaybi fı adhalı. Wal‐shaybu abadu fı nu߲in an al‐tuhami. I was suspicious regarding the advice of the elders; But the wise advise of elders should have never been held in suspect. Fa inna ammratı bil‐sü√i m ittaa÷at. Min jahlih bi nadhır al‐shaybi wal‐harami. Verily my soul that commands to evil, did not heed the advice due to its ignorance that gray hair and old age were warning signs. Wa l aaddat min al‐fil al‐jamıl qir. Δayfin alamma bi ra√sı ghayra mu˛tashimi. I haven’t prepared many good deeds for the guest that lies awaiting (death), nor did I honor him. Law kuntu alamu annı m uwaqqiruhu. Katamtu sirran bad lı minhu bil‐katami. Had I known that I would not be able to honour him, I would have concealed my secret with black henna. q Man lı bi raddi jim˛in min ghawyatih. Kam yuraddu jim˛ul‐khayli bil‐lujumi. Who is there that can restrain my wayward self, much like unmanageable horses are restrained. Fa l tarumm bil‐maßi kasra shahwatih. Inn al‐†ama yuqawı shahwat al‐nahimi. Don’t try to subdue your lust through other sins. Witout doubt, food only increases sensual desires. Wal‐nafsu kal‐†ifli inn tuhmilhu shabb al. ˘ubb al‐ra∂ı wa inn taf†imhu yanfa†imi. Your ego is like a child when breastfed. It loves suckling but when you wean it, it will stop. Faßrif hawh wa ˛dhir an tuwalliyahu. Inn al‐haw m tawal yußmi aw yaßimi. Cut off its inclinations and make sure it never overpowers you. Whomever lust overpowers, it kills. q Wa rih wa hiya fil‐amli s√imatan. Wa in hiya ista˛latil‐mar fa l tusimi. Guard it while it grazes in the field of actions; if it enjoys pasture, do not let it graze freely. Kam ˛asanat ladhdhatan lil‐mar√i qtilatan. Min ˛aythu lam yadri ann al‐summa fil dasami. How often is pleasure considered good, but turned out deadly. He didn’t know poison was in the cream. Wakhshal‐das√isa min jüin wa min shibain. Fa rubba makhmaßatin sharrun min al‐tukhami. Fear the evil of both hunger and satiation. Most times hunger (poverty) is more evil than over‐eating. Wastafrigh al‐dama min aynin qad imtala√at. Min al‐ma˛rimi walzam ˛imyat al‐nadami.. Shed tears from those eyes which were full of forbidden glances. Make regret your diet. Wa khlif al‐nafsa wal‐shay†na waßihim. Wa in hum ma˛˛a∂ak al‐nu߲a fattahimi.. Oppose your ego and shay†n. Disobey both. If they give you advice, be suspicious. Wa l tu†i minhum khaßman wa l ˛akama. Fa anta tarifu kayd al‐khaßmi wal‐˛akami. Do not obey either whether they appear as enemies or advisors. You know full well the deception of both. Astaghfirullha min qawlin bi l amalin. Laqad nasabtu bihi naslan li dhı uqumi. I seek forgiveness for preaching what I do not practice. It is like claiming offspring from a barren woman. Amartuk al‐khayra lkin ma√tamartu bihi, Wa mstaqamtu fam qawlı laka istaqimi.. I command you to good, but do not command myself. I was not steadfast, so what use is my saying to you, “Be steadfast”? Wa l tazawwadtu qabl al‐mawti nafilatan. Wa lam ußalli siw far∂in wa lam aßumi.. I’ve stored up no provisions for death, nor did I pray nor fast anything beyond the obligatory. ⁄alamtu sunnata man a˛y al‐÷alma il. An ishtakat qadamhu al‐∂urra min warami. I didn’t do justice to the way of the Prophet who passed the night in worship until his feet swelled. Wa shadda min saghabin a˛sh√ahu wa †aw. Ta˛t al‐˛ijrati kash˛an mutraf al‐adami. He tied (a rope around his stomach) out of hunger, tied to it a stone beneath which is his delicate skin. Wa rawadathu al‐jiblul‐shummu min dhahabi. An nafsihi fa arha ayyam shamami. The high mountains of gold tried to tempt him, but he was completely disinclined, of spiritual power. Wa akkadat zuhdahu fıh ∂aruratuhu. Inn al‐∂arürata l tadü all‐ißami. His piety increased inspite of his needs. Verily, need can never prevail over infallibility. Wa kayfa tadü ill‐duny ∂aruratu man. Law lhu lam tukhrajil‐duny min al‐adami. How can the necessities of such a noble personality incline him towards this world. Had it not been for him, this world would not have been brought out of non‐existence. Salam Y Nabı salm alayka. Y Rasül salm alayk. Y ˘abıb salm alayka. ∑alawt Allah alayk. Oh Prophet, peace be upon you. Oh Messenger, peace be upon you. Oh beloved, peace be upon you. Blessings ever be upon you.
