Nov. 3rd: Cliff Haslam, born in Warrington, England, posseses one of the great voices of folk music. An institution in the state of Connecticut, he has sung each Monday night at the ancient Grisworld Inn in Essex for over 25 years. Cliff recorded a classic album of ballads and drinking songs for Folk-Legacy. A frequent guest at the Mystic Sea Music Festival, he accompanies himself on 12-string guitar. KINLOCH NELSON; Friday, November 15th; 8 PM Kinloch Nelson is a solo guitarist who presents a synthesis of classical, jazz, folk, and popular music. His program ranges from Bach to blues to traditional Celtic to original compositions, and may include musical references to Duke Ellington, Chuck Berry, Woody Guthrie, and even an occasional TV theme song. With 20 year experience as a performer, Kinloch Nelson draws from a repertoire of nearly 300 songs and tunes gath- ered from his travels through the USA, Canada, South America, Ireland, and Great Britain. The New York Pinewoods Folk Music Club is proud to present him in this Folk Off-Broadway concert. Expect him to enhance this performance with some fine singing and story-telling. Street parking is free after 7 on Jay St., Tillary St., or Flatbush Ave. Flatbush Ave 2 blocks south of Tillary Street has lots of meters which are legal after 7 pm (but tow-away before). If you park on Flatbush, walk into the commons 2 blocks West past the Chase Bank building. The Bank will be on your left, and a new building will be on your immediate right. BART’S; Sunday, November 17th; 2:30pm Co-sponsored and hosted by St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan, on the 3rd Sun- day of each month through June, 2:30 to 5:30pm, 109 East 50th St. We continue the colonial American tradition of lively (high-volume, up-tempo) four-part, unaccompa- nied gospel singing. Shaped notes, indicating fa-so-la intervals, make sight-reading easy. Instruction provided; beginners welcome! Sacred Harp hymnals available for loan or purchase. No fee; contributions collected.
