At the Installation on Sunday, November 17, we will consider what it means to be in a congregant-rabbi relationship and how our spiritual home will best help us navigate our Sunday the 17th of November lives over the coming decades. What would it look like if they not only got along, but they were friends? And what would it look like if they were not only friends, but they had such respect for the others’ traditions that they would stand in solidarity with their sisters and brothers of different faiths in an uncertain world at an uncertain time? I know it may be hard to see sometimes, but this type of religious harmony exists. There are people around the world committed to multifaith dialogue, that is, bringing people together across lines of different, to learn about the other, and so increase understanding and respect.This is the field I have worked in for several years, and I am very excited to work at Har Zion to help build up more interfaith programming at the shul – for multifaith families in the community, for those who want to learn about other traditions, for anyone who wants to meet people of other faiths, and more. There is already incredible work going on in the Philadelphia area, and we are excited to bring Har Zion into that fold. For those of you whom I have not yet met, my name is Allyson Zacharoff. I am a rabbinical student at the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in Wyncote, and I have been working in this field since 2012.
