Sibrydion 7 Sibrydion Turning the tide on plastic Cymunedol It is so heartening to see the various activities in the area, encouraged by organisations such as Tywyn Beach Guardians, Greener Tywyn and others in the villages, led by individuals, whom are trying very hard to clean up the area, and to reduce the amount of rubbish and plastic in particular, which fi nds its way, inevitably, into the seas and oceans. A signifi cant impetus for this was the footage on Blue Planet 2, by David Attenborough. Film of marine life swimming amidst the detritus of modern living, giving graphic evidence of how we as a race are destroying the planet, which was so perfectly created. It brought it into our living rooms. This problem has been in existence for many years. In 1980, a 914kg leatherback turtle found on Harlech beach, (it can now be seen in the National Museum in Cardiff ). It had been killed by a polythene bag, which Debbie Ashton, had been ingested. Since then, the seas have become more and more Editor polluted and more marine life has been killed. Let us all try to do our bit, to ‘turn the tide’ on plastic and fi nd ways of living a plastic-free life! If you visit the coast, and you see pieces of plastic Please note the on the beaches, please pick it up – even aim to bring away 3 pieces of submission plastic at each visit. It will be a laborious job, but I’m sure we can all make deadline for content in your diary –and a diff erence, albeit somewhat late. So, let us all try and drastically reduce supply in good time. our use of plastic, re-use what can be re-used and recycle responsibly by Many thanks. using the council recycling boxes we have all got.
