EIA FOR PERBADANAN KEMAJUAN PERTANIAN SELANGOR CHAPTER 1 CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION 1.1 TITLE OF PROJECT 1.1.1 Name of Project This Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report for the Project will be terms as “Proposed 2,497 Hectares Reforestation in Bukit Tarek Forest Reserve, Mukim Kerling, District of Hulu Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan”. The Project shall be thereafter referred as ‘the Project’ in this report. The proposed Project is a conversion of the secondary forested area into a high- quality trees plantation, located on a state land with total area of 2,497 ha (6,170.22 ac) at Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek and Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek Tambahan in Mukim Kerling, Daerah Hulu Selangor, Selangor Darul Ehsan. The Project area will be developed into high quality trees plantation by using quality rubber tree from the timber-latex clone (TLC) and other forest species. 1.1.2 Location of the Project and Project Accessibility The proposed Project site is located in within the Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek and Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek Tambahan, Mukim Kerling, District of Hulu Selangor (Figure 1.1.1). The proposed Project site (Phase 5 and 6) is located adjoining the northern and southern boundary of the existing developed 1,769 ha area (Phase 0). The Project site, located at approximately latitude from N 03° 35’ 0.41” to N 03° 29’ 24.64” and longitude E 101° 30’ 27.33” to longitude E 101° 37’ 35.84” as shown in Table 1.1.1 and Figure 1.1.2. The best access to the area (Phase 5 & 6) is through the highway exit 120 at Lembah Beringin, a semi-abandoned township bordering the plantation. For the Phase 1 – 4, a new main access road to connect with existing road (Jalan Persiaran Zurah 1) in Kawasan Perindustrian Zurah will be constructed. The landuse within 500 m radius from the boundary of Project site are predominantly comprises of agriculture and some forest land. Oil palm plantation forms the primary agriculture crops apart of some rubber and orchard plantation. Sg Tinggi Dam catchment is recorded at the north-western of the Project boundary, next to Phase 5 Project site. While Lembah Beringin Golf Club and Kawasan Perindustrian Zurah are the only two developed areas recorded within the 250 m radius, at the eastern of Phase 5 and Phase 1, respectively. The Project area is located within ESA II but bordering ESA I of Sg Tinggi Dam catchment along the western boundary of Phase 5. Other ESA II area located within the Zone of Study (ZOS) includes small area of Hutan Simpan Bukit Belata on the western of Phase 5, Hutan Simpan Bukit Tarek on the northern of Phase 5, small area at the edge of Hutan Simpan Hulu Selangor on the north-eastern of Phase 4 and a very small area of Hutan Simpan Rantau Panjang (U) at the southwest Project boundary as shown in Figure 1.3.1. The Project sites are located close to the secondary ecological corridor link area with ecological links recorded on the eastern and western boundaries as well as at the central region bordering Phase 0, 6, 3 and 1. The location of the ecological corridor namely the central forest spine CFS2-SL3 is shown is Figure 1.3.2.
