Much before he had even thought o seriously engaging in ‘Orientalist’ researches – he had published a Grammar of the Persian Language in 177 epithet ‘Persian Jones’.[7](#_edn7) Understandably, when he found himself in the ‘Orient’, in India of all pla knowledge was whetted beyond measure.
