Lesson 3 GOD Watch Names of God Watch God Move IN Your Lif e Watch God Move THRU Your Life ADONAI A – Etymology (origin) : ADONAI ADONAI -- root word is “ADON” which means “MASTER”, “LORD”, “OWNER”, “RULER” -- In the Old Testament, “ADON” can refer to men and angels as well as to the LORD God of Israel . It is a title of those who have the power of life and death over others. -- ADONAI is the plural form of ADON. -- The plural form , ADONAI, is used when referring to YHWH the God of the Hebrews . -- It is said that scribes add vowel mark/s to the word YHVH so the reader would say either Elohim or Adonai during prayers so it would not be repetitious. B – First Use of ADONAI: Gen 15:2 Genesis 15 After these things the word of the Lord (YHWH) came to Abram in a vision: “Fear not, Abram, I am your shield; your reward shall be very great.” 2 But Abram said, “O Lord (ADONAI) God (YHWH), what will you give me, for I continue childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” Q1.
