At the height of the Trivial Pursuit craze,* our family bought several of the boxed games since we were forever arriving at family gatherings having left ours behind. With a bit o’ luck and some excellent partners, I don’t think I’ve ever lost a trivia game, though the Sports & Leisure category remains my Achilles** and the Arts & Literature category my coup de grace.*** The nice thing about being a trivial person is having random facts at your fingertips when someone idly wonders where the phrase “I Am Curious (Yellow)”**** comes from, which actually came up in a conversation last month. The useless thing about being a trivial person is that Google’s speed***** makes us obsolete as well as trivial. I’m not worried. My wireless brain connection still usually manages to get signal even in those places where Google will never get a signal.****** Others of a trivial nature will recall Insite’s original Trivia issue in August 1991, when we relied on landline telephones, locals with long memories, and especially Bryan reference librarian Clara Mounce to put the issue together.
