You were meant to be here. This moment is yours.” “Victory is in having done your best. If you’ve done your best, you’ve won.” While an extra early start had the boys rubbing the sleep from their eyes, this was a day where eighty years of Coorparoo Football Club tradition was on the line. The boys from Coorparoo Gold U8 did not disappoint as they ran onto the field epitomising a new generation of players and wearing the club emblem with pride. In a game where Morningside had the upper hand, it was clear that Coorparoo Gold was starting to show some excellent form. Throughout the game they never gave in. Not once. While some runs went the wrong way, they were still able to take the run away from a number of Morningside’s star playmakers. The defence from the likes of Brayden, Toby and Jackson was exceptional. Their pressure was relentless, enabling Coorparoo Gold to win a few of the one-on-one battles. Finlay flew high to claim a strong mark and then went back for an attempt at goal. Oscar and Nicholas were hugely influential, each collecting 8 disposals. Ethan was a ball magnet with 6 touches and 4 clearances. Lucas, who has had had plenty of practice standing up to his bigger brother, marked his man and took some handy handballs. He was ably supported by Dash and Daniel who were awarded with some nice marks. Sebastian and Toby set up by much-improved performances our key midfielders, who racked up plenty of possessions. Half time signalled some much needed water and oranges along with some well thought out words of encouragement and support from Coach Andrew Park. The Umpire’s bounce signalled the start of the third quarter. Toby jumped high in the ruck with a good pair of hands finding the ball. Some well-placed kicks by Ethan and Oscar caused all sorts of problems for Morningside. A great run by Dash and then a handball to Sabastian saw another near goal. The 25 strong crowd of supports cheered from the stands as the Coorparoo Gold U8s continued to impress the selectors. The final siren signalled the end of another great game of footy played on a perfect Brisbane day. Dash showed his recent form was no accident with a well-deserved “Player of the Week” award, while Sabastian was rewarded with the “Trainer of the Week” award.
