The Shire enjoys the highest population growth of all local government areas in the Western Australian Wheatbelt planning regions. Along with this significant growth, there are a range of important projects and infrastructure developments which will impact on the Shire, and our next Chief Executive Officer will continue to play a vital role with Council in realising benefits for the community. Candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to work with Councillors, regional stakeholders and community groups to support future growth strategies. The position is offered through a performance-based contract of up to five years. An attractive total reward package is negotiable in accordance with the Salaries and Allowances Tribunal Band 3 ranging from $156,356 - $256,711 per annum. The Shire straddles the Great Northern Highway which is a nationally significant freight link providing accessto the agricultural and resource rich areasto the north. The Shire’sCouncil Chambersand Administration are located in the town of Bindoon. Towns/localities within the Shire are Bindoon, Chittering, Lower Chittering, Mooliabeenee, Muchea and Wannamal. Economic activity includes extractive industry operations (gravel, clay and sand), the State Livestock yards (WAMIA), Mineral sands processing (Tronox), Northern Valleys Packshed, Bindoon Bakehaus and Cafe, nurseries, viticulture, wineries, boutique food producersand other small businesses. There is an large scale (1,100 ha) industrial area in the south of the Shire (the Muchea Industrial Park) which is set aside for industry uses such as transport, agribusiness, fabrication, warehousing, wholesaling and general industry. Government investment of $1.5B in NorthLink WA and Great Northern Highway will realise a convergence of an estimated 14 million tonnes of freight at Muchea by 2022. When the $200M Bindoon Bypass is complete, Great Northern Highway’s Restricted Access Vehicle (RAV) will increase to RAV10 permitting 53.5m road trains to terminate at the site of the Muchea Industrial Park.
