(2018). An Analysis of the Translation of Figures of Speech Found in Coco Movie. Yogyakarta: English Language Education, Sanata Dharma University. Movie’s subtitle is a product of translation. Translation is a process of transferring the meaning from source language into the target language. Translating English subtitle is not easy, especially if the movie contains many figures of speech expressions. The translator should be aware in translating the figure of speech expressions because they cannot be translated literally. This research analyzed the types of figures of speech found in COCO movie and how acceptable the translation of the figures of speech is. The researcher chooses COCO movie because it is a new, popular and an inspiring movie. It is an animation movie, which contains figures of speech inside of it. There are two research questions. They are: (1) What types of figures of speech are found in the COCO movie? And (2) How acceptable is the translation of the figures of speech in the Indonesian subtitle? It is a qualitative research and uses document analysis technique. The researcher uses Abrams’ theory (1999) to classify the types of the figures of speech that used in the movie and for the second research question, the researcher uses Larson’s theory (1984) of the degree of acceptability translation. The researcher found 75 expressions that contain figures of speech. They are divided into 3 kinds of figures of speech, namely; 35 metaphors (47%), 32 personifications (43%) and eight litotes (10%). The researcher also analyzes the acceptability degree of the translation of the figures of speech, the researcher found 52 expressions classified as Ideal-acceptable translation (69%), 15 expressions categorized as acceptable translations (20%), 5 expressions included in Unacceptable translations (7%), and 3 expressions are failed translations (4%). As the result, the translation of the figures of speech in COCO movie are categorized as a good translation because 89% of the figures of speech are acceptable translation. An Analysis of the Translation of Figures of Speech Found in Coco movie. Yogyakarta: English Language Education, Sanata Dharma University.
