Not just an exclusive structure. But the

THE VELASCA TOWER

ultimate symbol of ITALIAN flair and style

A glimpse of the foyer on the ground floor, surrounded by custom-designed fine wood pannelling and a number of enormous chandeliers, all by BBPR. Opposite page, a striking shot of the Velasca Tower, the 106-metre tall building designed by Belgiojoso, Banfi, Peressutti, Rogers and built between 1956 and 1958.

ELLE DECOR ITALIA FOR DOMUX HOME

Functionality, comfort, prestige. The VELASCA TOWER, the unmistakeable architectural mark of Milan, interprets the style of contemporary living

Designed in the 1950s by BBPR, one of the masters of Italian 20th century architecture, the Velasca Tower is a building with both a location and dimensions – 106 metres in height with a full view of the Milanese skyline– that display decidedly spellbinding characteristics when it comes to functionality, comfort and prestige. Stretching along Via Larga, Corso Italia, Corso di Porta Romana, the spectacular silhouette of the building has always attracted and fascinated passers-by who can appreciate its unusual, engaging shape even more. We are struck by an emotion that becomes stronger and stronger as we draw near, discovering the rich texture, colours and refined outline of the facades. Until we raise our eyes skywards and notice the expansion of the upper volume (from the 19th to the 26th floor), dedicated to residences that are supported by the upright buttresses: an innovation in terms of design that was deemed extremely state-of-the-art for that time. Today, living in the Velasca Tower is a total experience, made possible thanks to the intervention commissioned by the Unipol Group, which has owned the property since 2012. Under the brand Domux Home, the Group has created the Luxury Apartments Collection, a portfolio of prestigious short-term rental apartments: two and three-roomed properties (located on floors 19, 20 and 21) with interior design and mood created by the famous Milanese design firm Lissoni Architettura in partnership with Living Divani, Porro, Boffi, Kartell and Flos. An intervention geared to project the quality of the spaces, functionality and lifestyle of each residence into the here and now, making the most of the undisputed qualities of this monument to architecture which is of recognised historical and artistic interest. Living in the Velasca Tower, from today, is therefore a privilege that can not only be ‘accessed’ by archifans, but by all those who wish to plunge head first and lose themselves in the soul of the city. A unique experience, to be browsed at your leisure and lived to the full in the following pages. domuxhome.it

THE HISTORY OF A MONUMENT TO ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN Designed starting from the early 1950s, and built in 1958 by Banfi, Belgiojoso, Peressutti, Rogers, aka BBPR, one of the most important architectural firms of the twentieth century in Italy, the Velasca Tower is a true turnkey project. An intervention that spanned from the finest detail, such as the handle of a door, custom-designed and produced specifically for the project, to the choice of the materials, such as the particular type of cement mixed with Veronese marble Terrazzo tiles used to create the characteristic pinkish shade of the facades. From the definition of the indoor spaces, divided into common areas, offices and residences, to its relationship with the city, respected by the decision to build a smaller structure, well in proportion with the dimensions of the other buildings around it, and a larger volume upstairs, open to show the Milan skyscape. Built in just 292 days, it is an example of the perfect mix of cutting edge engineering and grand architecture. The pillars in cement that delineate the perimeter are not hidden, but instead outline the design of the facades, becoming a characterising element of the same as they branch into the spectacular oblique buttresses supporting the ‘tower’ of the residences. A splendid example of modern architecture that looks to and reinterprets the morphology of medieval buildings, changing to become something brand new. The Velasca Tower, together with the Duomo, the Sforzesco Castle, Central Station and the Pirelli Tower is, to all effects, one of the ultimate symbols of Milan.

View of the entranceway to the Velasca Tower on the ground floor. On the sides, two of the lifts that lead up to the offices. Each detail, from the lamps to the door and window frames and the wood pannelling, has remained unchanged. Opposite page, a glimpse of the aerial passageway on the mezzanine floor between the stunning chandeliers.

ELLE DECOR ITALIA FOR DOMUX HOME

TAILOR-MADE
LIFESTYLE

Perfect for the professional visiting Milan for work, or for the couple on holiday in the CITY OF FASHION, the tworoomed apartment is an IDEAL residence for those seeking to live the Milanese lifestyle to the full. In a living room with a UNIQUE identity

In the living room of one of the two-roomed apartments, the furniture is laid out in a way that enhances its functionality and promises a relaxing atmosphere. Between the two windows, with the spectacular view out over the city, a table by Kartell, Living Divani chairs, coffee table and sofa on the right. Left, storage unit by Porro, lights by Flos.

ELLE DECOR ITALIA FOR DOMUX HOME

A breathtaking view of the city, fine finishes, functionality and an exquisite atmosphere. These are only some of the plus points that add value to the Luxury Apartments Collection of Domux Home (in the two-roomed apartment). Located on floors 19 to 21, the homes offer a unique panorama of the Milanese skyscape, in a privileged position at only a hundred metres from the spires of the Duomo. The built-in furniture exudes exclusive elegance, such as the built-in wardrobes, defined by fine curves in natural wood with wood panelling effect, and crowned with handles and finishes that remain faithful to the original design, conceived by BBPR and skilfully restored. The logical layout of the spaces is unique: a welcoming living room characterised by a relaxation area furnished with pieces by Living Divani and illuminated with lamps by Flos to create a striking atmosphere, the fact that the dining room and kitchen space are directly connected, the latter furnished with furniture by Boffi, bookcases and furnishing accessories laid out perfectly to optimise the living experience. For cosier MOMENTS OF RELAXATION during winter or using the loggia terrace for an open-air breakfast on sunny days

A large living room with a view of the Duomo and of Old Milan, design details, bright, welcoming spaces, furniture made in Italy with its unmistakeable style. The residences of the Luxury Apartments Collection have been designed and fine-tuned right down to the tiniest detail to offer a stay in Milan in grand style. The environments of these residences, located on the upper floors of the Velasca Tower, are lucky enough to enjoy an extraordinary bright radiant atmosphere thanks to the strategic positioning of the large windows running around their perimeter. Indeed, the double living room not only features a dining area beside the splendid loggia terrace, a space open to the light that is perfect at breakfast time or for spending moments outdoors in summer, but also has a large corner window. This is an architectural innovation designed by BBPR which, in addition to enhancing the residence with a detail of fine design, also lets in more light and exposes the living room looking in two different directions. A true spectacle, also reflected in the layout of the spaces, which is more complex and articulated than the two-roomed apartment as it is composed of a large relaxation area furnished with Living Divani sofas, Porro tables and bookcases, Kartell chairs and accessories and lights by Flos. The ultimate in design quality and elegance. Factors that we also find in the bedrooms, all equipped with large windows and wardrobes based on an original design, the perfect finishing touch to a unique living experience.

The double living room consisting of a relaxation area, in the foreground, with access to the panoramic loggia terrace, perfect when the sun’s out.
