Violet extends an invitation to Lady Shackleton to join her for lunch with Lord Merton, a widower, and they discuss the issues with daughter-in laws. Baxter explains to Molesley that she believes Thomas knows something about Bates’ involvement with Green’s murder. She then asks Moseley if he has done something to his hair. JIMMY I went to the village and telephoned her; to reason with her. And I think it were a mistake. THOMAS It was never going to put her off. JIMMY Exactly. The trouble is, she hates getting older. Her car has broken down, so Cora invites her to stay for dinner and the night. Noticing something different about Molesley, Robert asks about his ancestry. As Jimmy enters with tea for the Granthams and their guest, he and Lady Anstruther exchange a look. It’s clear Jimmy is surprised by her presence at Downton. CLIP 3 Season 5, Episode 1 Lady Anstruther, a visitor to Downton Abbey, walks down the stairs and encounters Jimmy, her former footman, in the hallway. She makes a suggestive remark and touches him, just barely missing the notice of Mr. Carson. The Granthams are hosting their guests before a dinner to celebrate their anniversary, and Lady Anstruther acknowledges to Mary her amazement at their many years of marriage. Sarah Bunting is announced as she enters the room to the surprise of Branson who didn’t know she was invited by Lady Rose to dinner. Robert is annoyed to see Miss Bunting and watches as she expresses her political opinions to guests. Violet and Isobel arrive, and while Isobel seems happy to see Miss Bunting, Violet suggests to Mary, Robert and Edith that Miss Bunting may not be the best match for Branson.
