Of course, there are some years I have not gotten there, but 1st Sunday in August remains a high priority. This year we had really great weather. Avanti, Studebaker and Packard showed up in good numbers. Many members came out for this event. See the minutes for those who attended the meeting. I know some were there but did not attend. We enjoyed seeing members of the Rock River group, some with dual membership. I enjoyed visiting with Ed and Gladys Stastny. It’s been too long since we last visited. Bill Mitchell showed up in a 1965 Wagonaire – the first time I remember seeing him driving a Studebaker. Studebaker on Facebook I first started to use Facebook a few years ago as a way to keep up with my children, their spouses and grandchildren. Since then I’ve expanded to other relatives, friends and various groups. I seldom post something directly, but I often ‘like’ or comment on something. When Paul Windish started to post some photos from his trip last month to the international meet in Dover, Studebakers and other automo- tive groups have become very frequent occurrences on my screen. There’s the Studebaker Addicts (International), the STUDEBAKER, American Automobiles…, Old Cars Weekly, Avanti Owners Association, and others. Studebakers are present in a variety of vehi- cles: pedal driven children’s autos, buses, trucks, sedans, convertibles, station wagons, military and rescue vehicles, even a motorcycle hid- den between early 50s rear fenders. A variety of material is present as well: old ads, eBay and other for sale listings, current vehicles, long stored collections rusting away, restoration or modification in process, from early 1900s electric to 2008 Avanti, showroom to race track, service bay to paint booth, questions and answers. Vehicles presented come from the world-wide Studebaker community and beyond, from Black Hawk members those from other continents, in English, etc. International Drive Your Studebaker Day, September 13, 2014 Last year I missed this event because an aunt passed away in California and I felt compelled to be there with my cousins. I hope that I’m able to participate in events this year. Brian Clauss has again arranged for us to be on the Lunch Hour news segment at WGN tele- vision on Friday, September 12. Let Brian know if you’ll be there: E-mail [email protected] On Saturday, September 13, we have options: From Jack Willis: Gordy Buetsch would like to invite the Black Hawk chapter to join the RRVCSDC to a picnic at his house, 1 PM to ? Bring lawn chairs and a dish to pass. Gordy will supply the meat, soda, silverware and plates. Bring a Studebaker if you can, brand X or whatever. (just come) He invites friends
