We need to ensure that our contact information for parents /carers is correct, please advise if there are any updates. After half term we will be sending out information sheets, please can we ask you to check these and send any changes through to [email protected] Information on the current situation regarding orthotic provision at Treloar’s: As some of you may be aware we unfortunately have an issue with our current Orthotic supply and service at Treloar’s. Basingstoke Orthotics department are no longer able to come and run clinics here for our school and college students. This means that, at present, there is not an NHS service provider who is able to come in, although we can continue to arrange appointments at Basingstoke Hospital. We do have contact with a private Orthotic team who are supporting some students at Treloar’s at present. Our department are currently pursuing other options for how orthotic support can be provided to students whilst they are here. We appreciate this has left us in a difficult position at this time. There are a number of options for how we are managing needs at this current time: You could liaise directly with your local service and arrange to take your son/daughter to an appointment there. We can arrange an NHS appointment at Basingstoke Hospital. The problem with this option at the moment is that we are now subject to their waiting list. The wait can be longer and more complicated if we also have to coordinate in transport. If we 2 follow this option we may need to ask parents if they are able to assist with getting their young person to an appointment, although we are aware that is not an option for everyone. We can look at arranging an appointment with the private orthotic service that currently come in to Treloar’s to see a small number of students. This currently requires support from the student’s GP to seek funding through their local CCG; however we are exploring ways of making this a more fluid process. Our OT team will keep us all updated and we hope to be in a position to let you know a workable solution imminently. Student Illness and Reassessment Following an episode of ill health lasting one week or more/admission to hospital or surgery: We are keen to support a student’s return to school and college following surgery /admission to hospital/and or period of time unwell lasting one week or more, as soon as it is possible to do so. As part of this process, we do need to complete an assessment of student need before the student returns to Treloar’s. This is to ensure the student can return to college/school safely, with staff fully aware of any change in need. The MDT will assess for changes to daily routines or care plan, medication, equipment, moving and handling, so that all staff can meet the student’s needs. When surgery or hospital admission is planned in advance, we will try to schedule in this reassessment as part of the forward planning. Where health issues or the need for surgical intervention arise suddenly, the reassessment and return to college/school needs to be planned as a team between Treloar’s, home and other professionals who may have been involved. Progress and Transition Coordinators (PTCs) should be the first point of contact for parents to discuss and plan a student’s return to Treloar’s following assessment. The PTCs will liaise and coordinate the communication between home and the multidisciplinary team in college/school to support and enable the student’s return. The student will be assessed by a registered nurse and relevant therapist and/or residential staff. Depending on the situation, the assessment may take place over the phone, onsite or involve both. For onsite assessments, parents will need to attend. The assessing nurse will need as much information as possible, so parents need to bring any medical/hospital discharge letters and written documentation of changes to on-going treatment such as medication. Parents need to be aware that return to school/college is not guaranteed, and they should be prepared to take the student home if it is decided the student’s needs cannot be met safely at that time. Any further questions around this can be discussed with the PTCs. Students returning to Treloar’s following the holiday periods from another placement e.g. Respite provision: If students are returning to Treloar’s from another care provider following the holiday periods rather than from home, it is essential that we receive a full discharge summary of their wellbeing and care whilst at the placement, including medication changes and when the last doses were given. It is Parents/Carers responsibility to ensure this discharge information is supplied by the external provider and given to their child’s Link Nurse at Treloar’s. 3 Update from Sixth Form: All of the Sixth Form students are delighted to announce that rehearsals for their performance of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ are now underway. The students will perform to the School and College plus invited guests on World Book Day, 5th March 2020. Update from KS3: Photographs from Morag Steel of her new students enjoying activities! 4 Music update: Our first visit from the Bournemouth Symphony’s Resound Ensemble was extremely successful. In the first of six workshops, both school and college Open Orchestras had the chance to work with seven members of the Resound Ensemble (https://bsolive.com/people/bso-resound-ensemble/). After hearing the ensemble play, students then had the chance to play with them and we had a wonderful joint performance of Bach/Gounod’s Ave Maria. Students were using Clarion, a new technological instrument, and thoroughly enjoyed the day. One student’s comment (using AAC device) was: “I think I enjoyed it, it’s my favourite. I enjoyed playing with the other musicians, especially the violin.” It’s that’s time of the year already! Our Christmas stocking competition is open to parents. This Christmas we would like to have a competition to get everyone involved in the festive celebrations and come together as a School and College. Our theme is giving and love based on the idea of St Nicholas giving to the poor. We would like you to make a ‘stocking full of love’. This could be for a loved one, a friend, a complete stranger, an animal or even the planet; anyone who is special to you and our students. Your stocking can be any size (preferably not too heavy) and made out of any material (sewn, cardboard, felt, crochet, paper, photos, wool etc.). BIODEGRADABLE GLITTER ONLY! Please get involved – there are mega prizes for School staff, College staff, staff teams and parents! 5 Judging will be held on Friday 29th November by Stephen Golding, our lovely new Chaplin. Please deliver any completed stockings to G16 music room if completed or FT Hall on the 29thNovember. Primary update: We are now running 5 Lunchtime Enrichment Clubs for our EYFS/Primary students which are fantastically well attended and great fun!! Monday: Bingo or Uno Tuesday: Art Wednesday: Crazy Horse Game Thursday: Cheerleading Club Friday: Card Games We are embracing the outdoors and are aiming to spend lots of time outside throughout all of the seasons; we have invested in waterproof ponchos and warm fleecy ponchos for all Primary students to keep everyone warm and dry! We have also been making the most of Snack time and celebrating various themes such as Harvest, Halloween etc.
