Julie ran 54:23 and was first of 4039 finishers in the W50-54 age group and 20th overall of 34,750 Females. Rob was 59th of 6313 finishers in the M45-49 age group in 53.23. He was 349th Male overall of 35,620 finishers. Approximately 80,000 runners entered. I guess I’ll never know what it’s like to beat 79,000 people home in one race Bob Henderson of Knox, was travel- ling nicely at Lillydale Lake parkrun until someone put a bridge in front of him. I don’t know that he’s a Geelong fan but he looks a lot like Joel Selwood. He needed 11 stitches to his fore- head wound. That patch of blood looks like a map of Tasmania ! 5 Masterpieces The XCR (cross country & road) season is now completed and while the final results have not yet been published, with one round to go our teams were placed as follows : Our Division 4 Men’s team is in 4th place (out of 14) and our Division 7 team is 2nd. Unfortunate- ly we have not had enough Women competing to get meaningful results but we hope to rectify that next season. Keep in mind that you will be welcome to join our teams either in next year’s XCR or the Track and Field team starting 5th October. The program for the 2019/2020 Athletics Victoria Track and Field competition has been released and is now to be called AVSL - Ath- letics Victoria Shield League. At first reports he was going well al- though he was much more concerned about his beloved Tigers and having the anaesthetic wear off in time to watch the game. Tony Johnson has also had a knee re- placement in the last few weeks. He’s been at parkrun the last two weeks itching to get back into it. 6 Masterpieces HAPPY 95th JIMMY !! Jim Sinclair celebrated his 95th Birthday at Springvale - Noble Park recently and then flew to Mackay to compete in the Oceania Championships just as all 95 year olds would do. Jim ran the 60m; 100m and 200m on the brand new Mackay track. Congratulations Jim, you’re a marvel. 7 Masterpieces NEWS FROM EAST BURWOOD Hawley Thomas 3 x 2000 m relay The second annual Hawley Thomas Relay was held on a cold, but clear night on 22nd August. East Burwood put on a great supper for all those that came from other venues. As well as venue teams, the Thomas family also fielded a team. The men’s team winners were East Burwood with Stephen Day (7:55), Paul Earle (8:18) and Adam McCann (8:06). Shane Grund was by far the fastest with 6:03, but Knox had to settle for second place. East Burwood also won the women’s race with Ros Lording (9:00), Janet Holmes (9:43) and Chris Robinson (10:00). Ros was the fastest woman. East Burwood also had a second men’s team with Christopher Worsnop (9:24), Sam Defanis (9:42) and Ashley Ryan (10:22). Freezing Freddo Frog 4 km handicap series. This series continued in July and August with heats 3 and 4. In heat 3 Paul Earle was the back-marker.
