He was the second son of Simon Landauer and Senta Seller. There was an older son, Leopold, and a third son, Albert. An only daughter, Johanna Henrietta, was born in 1912. She was named after her paternal and maternal grandmothers, and was always called "Hansi." Landauer moved first to Portland Oregon in 1941, before moving to Vancouver in 1945. On October 1, 1946, Landauer completed the purchase of the Leonard Frank Photos (Leonard Frank passed away February 1944). Otto continued in the business until he passed away September 19, 1980. His last photographs were taken September 12, 1980, at the Marine Institute. Administrative history / Biographical sketch Note Leonard Frank was a well-known professional photographer in British Columbia. He was born in Germany and first moved to San Francisco, before travelling to Alberni, B.C., to work in the mining industry. He began his photography interest there. In 1916, he moved to Vancouver and began to work as a photographer. He later established Leonard Frank Photos studio. Jewish Museum and Archives of British Columbia Page 3 A.1985.001 Leonard Frank Photos studio fonds Scope and content The fonds consists of records from three distinct sources: the Leonard Frank Photos studio, the Frank family , and the Landauer family. The records of Leonard Frank Photos studio constitute those that remained after the closure of the business in 1983. They consist of photographs and textual records. The photographs cover many significant events and developments in British Columbia's history. Their major subject areas include logging, lumbering, mining, shipping, fishing and transportation; the construction of bridges and buildings in the Vancouver area; famous people; aboriginal peoples; and scenic views of mountainous, coastal, and urban areas. The photographs were taken by Leonard Frank and Otto Landauer. The textual records consist of photographic FindingAids, business correspondence, financial records, and historical and reference material. The records of the Frank family consist of the personal papers of Leonard and Bernard Frank. The records of the Landauer family consist of the personal papers of Otto Landauer and members of his family.
