Foot print: The protected DNA region (bound by proteins) in a DNA footprinting experiment. Hydroxyl radicals: When the iron salts are reacted with hydrogen peroxide, they are reduced to form free hydroxyl radicals. The DNA fragment is cleaved when the free hydroxyl molecule react with the DNA backbone. In vivo footprinting: To analyze the protein-DNA interactions taking place in a cell at a certain time point, the in vivo footprinting technique utilized.
