<p> ROTARY NOON NEWS – THE COMMUNICATOR</p><p>VOLUME 85 – NUMBER 16 MONDAY – OCTOBER 21, 2013</p><p>SINGING</p><p>STEVE HOLMAN, “Jingle Bells” (in anticipation of snow forecast for Tuesday) and “Get Together” (Accompanied by pianist Stuart Bernatt)</p><p>ANNOUNCEMENTS</p><p>PATTY BURKE announced that the Dictionary Project will proceed as usual. The dictionaries will be distributed to third graders the week of Nov 18. Sign-up sheets were distributed. Five more volunteers are needed to fill the slots to distribute the dictionaries. Be sure to volunteer. Appointments with third grade teachers will be scheduled by the volunteer. Dictionaries are will be distributed to club members on Nov 11 and 18. (Please see attachment for participation and distribution directions from PATTY BURKE.)</p><p>The Freeport Noon Rotary Club has a Facebook Page. If you are a member of Facebook, go to your FB page and type “Freeport Noon Rotary Club” in the search box to find the Club’s page. Pictures are posted from prior events. No names are used. KATHY did not pick the winning marble. No winner so the pot grows! Now worth over $234!</p><p>HAPPY NEWS</p><p>LAURA WELTI recognized WINN TOERBER for his ham radio “Jamboree on the Air” held at his home. Thunderous applause was initiated.</p><p>LINDA WILSON thanked GEORGE WALKER for chairing last week’s Rotary meeting and thanked him in advance for doing the same thing next week when she visits her children in Pennsylvania.</p><p>ROBERTA SELLECK announced that she will host a Rotary Open House near the holidays at her home. Hold the date of December 6, 5:30. Further information will be forthcoming.</p><p>FELLOWSHIP</p><p>STEVE HOLMAN asked all those who have NOT led singing portion of the meeting to put $1.00 on the table and all the rest to put $1.00 on the table because it was Monday. That is one way to raise money for the boot! PROGRAM</p><p>PRESIDENT WILSON introduced David Snyders, Stephenson County Sheriff. Sheriff Snyders reviewed the Concealed Carry law as it currently stands in Illinois. Those applying for a Concealed Carry Permit must pay $150 and be fingerprinted. They may apply for the permit after January 15, 2014. To receive the permit, the applicant must take and pass a 16 hour course that includes live firing at a range. The permit is good for 5 years. Out of state resident must pay $300 for a permit to carry concealed in Illinois even if they have a permit from another state.</p><p>Sheriff Snyders also reviewed places where it is illegal to carry a concealed firearm. These places include bars (50% alcohol business), school property, and churches. Several questions were raised about transporting a firearm or gun.
