<p>Residency Level: PGY 1 Surgical Rotation: Anesthesia Length of Rotation: Four Weeks </p><p>Goals and Objectives</p><p>Patient care: Pre-operative Assessment, Intra-operative Management, and Post-anesthetic Care Principles of airway management</p><p>Technical skill: Airway management by mask and endotracheal intubation Venous access (peripheral and central lines) Arterial puncture/ lines Lumbar puncture and epidurals</p><p>Medical knowledge: Principles of local, regional and general anesthesia, including physiology and pharmacology of anesthetic and analgesic agents</p><p>Practice-based learning and improvement: Critique personal practice outcomes Demonstrate recognition of need to stay abreast of new knowledge and practice-based learning </p><p>Interpersonal and communication skills: Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and recognize the importance of such communication between the anesthesiologist, the surgeon and other members of the surgical team</p><p>Professionalism: Demonstrate proper documentation of the anesthetic record Demonstrate sensitivity to age, gender and culture of patients and other health care professionals</p><p>Systems-based practice: Learn to practice high quality, cost effective patient care and demonstrate a knowledge of risk-benefit analysis</p>
