<p> Written Expression</p><p>Strategy: Mnemonic Devices</p><p>Appropriate Grade Level: 1st - 8th </p><p>Procedures/Steps: Give students instruction on the common parts of a good story represented by the mnemonic WWW, What=2, How=2. Each part of the mnemonic stands for a question that the students need to ask themselves while making notes for their stories. The three W’s stand for: Who is the main character? When does the story take place? Where does the story take place? The What=2 stands for two important “what” questions 1. What is the main character doing or trying to do 2. What happens when they main character tries to do The How=2 stands for two important “how” questions 1. How does the story end? 2. How does the main character feel?</p><p>Comments and/or tips: * It is important for teachers to discuss each part of the mnemonic with students so they understand it. * Model how each part is done * Help student’s memorize each part of the mnemonic so they can use it readily.</p><p>Source: Lane,Kathleen; Graham, Steve Harris.(2006).
