These requirements include but are not limited to – company specifications and procedures, work instructions, manufacturer specifications, product quality specifications, and legislative requirements. Heavy vehicle refers to a motor vehicle that is of Class MD3, MD4, ME, NB, NC, TC or TD; or has a gross vehicle mass that exceeds 3500 kg and is not of a class specified in the Table of vehicle classes as listed from Land Transport New Zealand website http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/publications/infosheets/infosheet-1- 10.html#classes. Light vehicle refers to classes as listed from Land Transport New Zealand website table http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/publications/infosheets/infosheet-1- 10.html#classes: passenger vehicle MA, MB, MC; omnibus MD, MD1, MD2; and goods vehicle NA.</p><p>4 Range Assessment against this unit standard applies to painting a minimum of seven exterior panels on or from light or heavy vehicles.</p><p>Elements and performance criteria</p><p>Element 1</p><p>Check the preparation of vehicle panels.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>1.1 Surface is checked for defects in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range sanding defects, repair defects, no missed sanding.</p><p>1.2 Masking is secure and smooth in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range no loose masking, remasking as necessary, all edges secure.</p><p>1.3 Surface is cleaned in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range solvent wash, blow off dust, tack off dust.</p><p>Element 2</p><p>Prepare and apply three layer pearl and two pack clearcoats.</p><p>Performance criteria</p><p>2.1 Paint materials and colour are identified and used in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range groundcoat, three layer pearl, two pack clearcoat, opacity; reducing, mixing ratios, matching, straining, measuring.</p><p>Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 5729 version 4 Page 3 of 4</p><p>2.2 Spray gun is identified and used in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range gravity feed or suction feed; air pressure, air and fluid adjustment, set up.</p><p>2.3 Paint application requirements are identified and complied with in accordance with legislative requirements and manufacturer specifications.</p><p>Range personal safety; safety of other people; vehicle safety; workshop safety; environmental safety; tool, equipment, and machine safety; solvent, isocyanate and paint inhalation and absorption; spray booth.</p><p>2.4 Groundcoat is applied in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>2.5 Pearl coats are applied in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>2.6 Two pack clearcoats are applied in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>2.7 Paint is dried in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range force dried, chemical reaction.</p><p>2.8 The surface is checked and minor defects are rectified in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Range surface is free of – dirt, runs, dryspray, orange peel, sink back.</p><p>2.9 Tools and equipment are cleaned and put away, and the work area is cleaned in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>2.10 Materials are stored in accordance with company requirements.</p><p>Please note</p><p>Providers must be accredited by NZQA, or an inter-institutional body with delegated authority for quality assurance, before they can report credits from assessment against unit standards or deliver courses of study leading to that assessment.</p><p>Industry Training Organisations must be accredited by NZQA before they can register credits from assessment against unit standards.</p><p>Accredited providers and Industry Training Organisations assessing against unit standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.</p><p>Ó New Zealand Qualifications Authority 2018 5729 version 4 Page 4 of 4</p><p>Accreditation requirements and an outline of the moderation system that applies to this standard are outlined in the Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP).
