<p> Data Entry and Information Processing Workers</p><p>DEFINITION: Operate keyboard or other data entry devices to prepare data processing input on cards, disk, or tape. Duties include coding and verifying alphabetic or numeric data.</p><p>TASKS:</p><p>1. Enters data from source documents into computer or onto tape or disk for subsequent entry, using keyboard or scanning device. </p><p>2. Compiles, sorts, and verifies accuracy of data to be entered. </p><p>3. Compares data entered with source documents. </p><p>4. Deletes incorrectly entered data. </p><p>5. Re-enters data in verification format to detect errors. </p><p>6. Keeps record of completed work. </p><p>7. Selects materials needed to complete work assignment. </p><p>8. Loads machine with required input or output media, such as paper, cards, disk, tape or Braille media. </p><p>9. Resolves garbled or indecipherable messages, using cryptographic procedures and equipment. </p><p>10. Files completed documents.</p><p>Qualifications</p><p>Education Requirements for a Career in Data Entry</p><p>The minimum general requirement for a career in Data Entry is a high school diploma or the GED equivalency. Coursework in keyboarding or typing will be greatly beneficial for a career as a Data Entry Specialist; a certification as a typist will improve your prospects in this field.
