District Nursing Team 2 COMMUNITY PLACEMENT</p><p>STUDENT INDUCTION PACK</p><p>3 STUDENT INDUCTION PACK</p><p>Welcome to Millhill Surgery for your primary care placement.</p><p>We promote a team mentoring approach but during this placement your named mentor will be ------</p><p>SURGERY INFORMATION</p><p>Built in 1990 Millhill Surgery is a G.P. surgery with a practice population of 9370</p><p>(figure correct January 2013). </p><p>The community staff are all GP attached/based and the practice catchment area covers</p><p>Dunfermline as well as the outlying areas of Rosyth, Cairneyhill, Crossford, Halbeath,</p><p>Kingseat, Townhill and Wellwood.</p><p>SERVICES PROVIDED BY MILLHILL SURGERY</p><p>Maternity services prenatal, antenatal and postnatal care.</p><p>Child health surveillance, development and health clinics, immunisations. </p><p>Chronic disease management: including asthma, diabetes, and cardiac rehabilitation.</p><p>Minor surgery and wart clinic.</p><p>Dietetic clinic.</p><p>Psychology (child and adult).</p><p>Contraceptive services.</p><p>Smoking cessation.</p><p>Over 75 health assessment.</p><p>(This list is not extensive)</p><p>4 MULTIDISCIPLINARY TEAM MEMBERS</p><p>G.P.s Dr E Christmas, Dr J MacKenzie, Dr E Phillips and Dr Parris. </p><p>Practice manager Susanne Hogarth.</p><p>District nurses D.N.S. There will also be the opportunity to access/spend time with members of the multi-disciplinary team out-with the GP practice. </p><p>Useful telephone numbers</p><p>Surgery 01383 621222</p><p>District nurses: 01383 310702</p><p>Health visitors: 01383 310700</p><p>You will also be given relevant staff mobile numbers during your placement.</p><p>5 OBJECTIVES OF PLACEMENT</p><p>(1) To enable recognition of the various multidisciplinary team members including their roles and remit. </p><p>(2) To gain experience as part of a multidisciplinary team.</p><p>(3) To be given opportunity to develop your nursing skills in a safe environment conducive to learning.</p><p>(4) To be given opportunity to participate in high standard care delivery guided by recognised national and local standards, protocols, policies and guidelines.</p><p>(5) To engage with families across the whole life cycle, searching out health needs and providing holistic care.</p><p>(6) To be actively involved in health promotion and health education.</p><p>(7) To develop your communication skills. </p><p>(8) To allow development of managerial skills including; assessment, evaluation, identification of need, clinical decision making, referral systems, liaison skills and general caseload management. </p><p>(9) To gain an understanding of formal and informal caring and support systems. </p><p>(10) To provide an insight into health and safety and risk management issues.</p><p>(11) To have a positive learning experience where the use of reflection is promoted as a method of personal development.</p><p>6 DAY ONE</p><p>Introduction to surgery team.</p><p>House keeping information: Tour of surgery. Fire safety including location of fire points, exits and extinguishers. Location of toilets and kitchen. Care of valuables.</p><p>Location of records; medical and nursing.
