A lesson on line, space, form, value, shape. Students will create an artwork inspired by Illumination by Niki de Saint Phalle and Jean Tinguely. They will learn about profiles and how to draw them, but draw an abstracted one. We will figure out a way to make their profile 3D so it creates a shadow behind it. They will learn about positive and negative space and cut a shape out of the center. **This could be a texture projects?? Maybe add ribbons and things as hair?  ** Idea for principles of art activity. Instead of having students cut out shapes and place them onto a piece of paper give them something that represents each element of art. 1. Line-string 2. Shape-paper cut into shape 3. Form-half a styrofoam ball 4. Texture-cloth, burlap, feathers 5. Value- point this out on 3d object 6. Space- used always without object 7. Color-any/all of the objects I always say, the principles are the building blocks of art, and the way they are organized incorporates the principles of design.
