<p> 8th Grade Health </p><p>Vocabulary</p><p>Health Appraisal: is a series of procedures to assess or determine thehealth status of students</p><p>Fad: weight loss plan or aid that promises dramatic results. </p><p>Self-Destructive Behaviors: deliberate or intentional behavior that has clear, definitely or probably negative effects on the self or on the self’s projects</p><p>Suicide: act or an instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally</p><p>Heimlich Maneuver: Emergency procedure to remove and object that is blocking the airway preventing a person from breathing </p><p>CPR: stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It is an emergency lifesaving procedure that is done when someone's breathing or heartbeat has stopped</p><p>Relationship: the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.</p><p>Communication Skills: ransmitting and receiving messages clearly, and being able to read your audience.</p><p>Digital Respect: Spreading negative or embarrassing dirt (true, untrue, or unknown) via text, pic, or video about someone behind their back or to their face.</p><p>Abstinence Strategies: Strategies that someone refrain from having pre-marital sex</p><p>Contraceptive Methods: Methods that are used to prevent pregnancy </p><p>BMI: Body Mass Index. Weight to height ratio. </p><p>Vitamin: group of organic compounds that are essential for normal growth and nutrition and are required in small quantities in the diet because they cannot be synthesized by the body.</p><p>Mineral: Inorganic elements, as calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, or sodium, that are essential to the function of the human body and obtained from food. Caloric Expenditure: Amount of calories used or burned through diet and exercise</p><p>Anorexia: an emotional disorder characterized by an obsessive desire to lose weight by refusing to eat.</p><p>Bulimia: an eating disorder in which a large quantity of food is consumed in a short period of time, often followed by feelings of guilt or shame</p><p>Binge Eating: the consumption of large quantities of food in a short period of time, typically as part of an eating disorder</p><p>Food Safety: scientific discipline describing handling, preparation, and storage of food in ways that prevent foodborne illness</p><p>Physical Activity: bodily movements produced by skeletal muscles that require energy expenditure.</p>
