<p> Smyrna Elementary Wellness Activities and Initiatives 2014-15</p><p>Fall and Spring 2014-15:</p><p> ASP after school clubs (golf, dance, soccer, martial arts, cheer, basketball)</p><p> Morning walking club for 2nd-5th grade students (Tuesday-Thursday)</p><p> Girls on the Run</p><p> Fitnessgram (twice per year for 4th and 5th; once per year for grades 1-3)</p><p> Teacher running group </p><p> Classroom physical activity breaks (Intelliboost and DVDs)</p><p> Fuel Up to Play 60</p><p> Strong 4 Life – Year 2 school visits and follow up</p><p>Fall Semester 2014:</p><p> Staff walking club – September-October led by K. Eldred</p><p> Student fruits/vegetables drawing contest – smoothies for winning grade level</p><p> Smoothies for teachers</p><p> Jingle Jog during PE – 4th and 5th grades – December</p><p> Staff boot camp</p><p> Mobile dental van – December 8th </p><p> Red Ribbon Week – October </p><p> Mass Vision and Hearing Screening (1st and 4th grades) – September-October</p><p> 1st Grade Kaiser Permanente home safety presentation – October</p><p> Sickle cell training for staff who teach students with sickle cell – November </p><p>Spring Semester 2015:</p><p> Staff walking club – January-May led by A. Morris</p><p> Jonquil Jog – community event (Smyrna ES student, staff, and parent team)</p><p> Staff tennis team</p><p> Incredible Shrinking Stars – Weight loss group – January-April</p><p> Grade level field days – May  Jump Rope for Heart – February</p><p> Relay for Life – May </p><p> Fruit/veggie trays for staff meetings; angel food cake?</p><p> “A Year of Being Well” book for each 4th and 5th grade students to keep</p><p> Cafeteria manager distributed standards-based nutrition lessons to all grade levels (Dec)</p><p>Ideas/Initiatives for 2015-16:</p><p> Wellness Team as a cross-grade level key team to meet monthly to increase participation</p><p> Possibly increase PE to 3 days/week for grades 4-5 (or every other day?)</p><p> Increased participation in Fuel Up to Play 60 (Cindy H)</p><p> Cafeteria manager gave 4th and 5th grade USDA learning garden lesson plans to media specialist for check out once our garden is operational (Dec 2014)</p><p> Increased parental and student involvement</p><p> $2000 for physical activity DVDs and health/nutrition games </p>
