Where will it take place?</p><p>2 Read the first paragraph *Note the type of language (formal/informal?), the descriptive imagery, the mood created immediately and the character’s name</p><p> Predict: What will this story be about? Explain why this is your prediction.</p><p>DURING READING:</p><p>3 Read to the end of the fourth paragraph where it says, ‘that he would ground out’  What is the conflict present so far? What do you think will happen with this conflict?</p><p> In what capacity is his daughter mentioned in this section- what does she do for him?</p><p> Why has the author called it a ‘golden line of rope’?</p><p> Note the significant imagery in the description of the mountain. Could this be a metaphor for something else? Predict what it might be describing. 4 How does the author effectively describe the protagonist’s fear? Use specific examples of diction and imagery in your answer. 5 Where on page 53 does the conflict first begin to become clearer? Quote the line. 6 What is Vertigo?
