<p> 2017 CCALAC Message Points</p><p>JOBS ARE AT STAKE  Health care is a major employment sector in Los Angeles  There are now nearly 600,000 health care jobs in Los Angeles County.1  Middle skill jobs offer communities a hand up out of poverty. o Nearly a quarter (23%) of the health care jobs in LA County are middle-skill, and Health Care comprises the bulk of middle skill job growth for the County. 2  Los Angeles County could lose 63,000 jobs due to partial repeal of the Affordable Care Act.3</p><p> Health centers hire and train employees from their communities o In 2010, my organization employed ___ FTEs o Now we employ ___ FTEs --we created ___ jobs for our community! o These jobs are now at stake if ACA is repealed.</p><p>OUR ECONOMY IS AT STAKE  Health Care Drives our Economy.  LA will lose $5.8 billion in GDP if the ACA is repealed, and California will lose $20.3 billion.4</p><p> Beyond adding health care jobs, community clinics and health centers invest in their communities and local economies: o Since 2010, my organization invested $___ in local construction. o We also invested $___ in contracts for services, such as facilities, maintenance and security. o Our investments in our local community are now at stake if ACA is Repealed.</p><p>1 JP Morgan Chase & Co., Strengthening Los Angeles, 2015</p><p>2 JP Morgan Chase & Co., Strengthening Los Angeles, 2015</p><p>3 UC Berkeley Labor Center, California’s Projected Economic Loss under ACA Repeal, December 2016</p><p>4 UC Berkeley Labor Center, California’s Projected Economic Loss under ACA Repeal, December 2016 LIVES ARE AT STAKE  In Los Angeles County, 1.5 million residents received coverage through Medicaid or Covered California.5  One in three Californians is now on Medicaid, and here in Los Angeles County 40 percent of our population now relies on that program for their coverage.6 </p><p> Coverage matters. Clinics serve all regardless of ability to pay, but we can serve more patients if we have a sustainable payer mix. o In 2010, my organization provided ___ visits to ___ patients. o ___ % of those patients were uninsured and ___ % were on Medicaid. o This past year, we provided ___ visits to ___ patients. o ___ % of those patients are now uninsured and ___ % are on Medicaid. o Medicaid now makes up ___ % of my total budget. o It’s because of the expansions in coverage that we were able to serve more people. o This growth is unsustainable under repeal.</p><p>WE STAND WITH OUR PARTNERS  Community Clinics and Health Centers share common missions of quality, access and prevention for all, regardless of ability to pay.  We support the many immigrants in our community. They are our family, friends, neighbors, patients and staff who make tremendous contributions to its richness and prosperity.  Immigrants are woven into the fabric of the health care workforce. The gains that have been made in health care are not possible without them. They will continue to play a critical role in ensuring that the health care needs of LA County residents are met.  In Los Angeles, Planned Parenthood plays a vital role in our safety net, serving nearly 10% of the 1.5 million Angelenos served by non profit </p><p>5 (California Healthline, How the Repeal of the ACA Affect Californians’ Health Coverage, December 2016) </p><p>6 (California Budget & Policy Center Medi-Cal Reaches Millions of People Across California, but Faces an Uncertain Future, Nov. 2016 ) community clinics and health centers. Any attack on Planned Parenthood threatens to destabilize LA's entire safety net. </p>
