Guided Practice - explore and discuss each section of the website http://athousandsuns.com. The website is presented in a Flash format that is very interactive and explores the atomic bomb and its use thoroughly. All you have to do is click on a section. It even has dramatic clips of nuclear testing. Discussion will come naturally as a result of the web site, however, you may wish to develop specific questions of your own.</p><p> http://ushistory.tusd.us/participants.htm Application/Practice Independent Practice - Have students write a journal entry in which they decide if use of the atom bomb was an effective way to bring about an end to the war.</p><p>Review/Assessment The assessment is the journal writing. Students will share and discuss information.</p><p>Reflections I found that this lesson had a great impact on my students. Beginning with the personal account was a good choice because it really got the students attention. It was graphic enough to elicit empathy, even from my 7th graders.
