<p>Trip Report Jim Henry 8 October 2002</p><p>Jim Henry, travel to Berlin, Germany to make presentation and confer with colleagues about International Education</p><p>CECS and Lupton Funds Total expenses ca $2,700, CECS $1,700, Lupton $1,000</p><p>Activities</p><p>I spent 3 days conferring with Dr. Herbert Schaedel of Cologne, Germany. He and I collaborated on remote experiments and system identification and controller designs over the past 3 years. We discussed future collaboration and developments at Cologne about controller design methods.</p><p>Dr. Henry and Dr. Schaedel conferring on modeling</p><p>I spent 4 days with the conference. I went to several plenary and break-out sessions and the rappateur session on the last day. Dr. Schaedel and I presented both a poster presentation and an a-v presentation of our work. There were several people showing interest.</p><p>Dr. Henry at poster presentation Dr. Henry at entrance to Technical University of Berlin</p><p>Page 1 Trip Report Jim Henry 8 October 2002</p><p>Benefit to UTC and CECS.  An international community (representing 46 countries) had the opportunity to see the work being done at in remote laboratories UTC.  I arranged with Dr. Scott Fogler at U-Mich for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of chemical engineering labs at UTC  I explored with Dr. Jonathan Awerbuch at Drexel University the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC  I explored with Dr. Sven Esche at Stevens Institute of Technology the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC and at Stevens  I explored with Dr. Eamonn McQuade at the University of Limerick, Ireland, the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC  I explored with Dr. Jean Brousseau at Universite de Quebec the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC  I explored with Dr. Victor Forsnes, ME&T, chair, BYU/Idaho the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC  I explored with Dr. Masakatsu Matsuishi, Kanazawa Inst of Tech, Japan the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC  I explored with Hans-Peter Voss, FH Karlsruhe the potential for his students and our students to collaborate on remote running of labs at UTC  I got ideas for proposal funding from EDS and from World Expertise</p><p>Peripheral Items German Unification Day was 3 October. The conference had no meetings in the afternoon of that day for the participants to take part in the national holiday. I got a front row ticket to a Berlin Philharmonic benefit concert on that day.
