<p>SUSSEX WILDLIFE TRUST</p><p>JOB PACK</p><p>IDENTIFICATION OF JOB</p><p>Job Title Living Seas Officer Department Living Lands & Living Seas Responsible to Strategy Lead – Living Landscapes & Living Seas Responsible for N/A To act as the principle advocate for Sussex Wildlife Trust (SWT) in relation to all marine conservation issues by engaging with key stakeholders, organisations, SWT staff/members and the public to Overall purpose of job further marine conservation and support The Wildlife Trusts’ Living Seas vision.</p><p>KEY MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE</p><p> Output of high quality Living Seas communications</p><p> Strong engagement in Sussex Marine Protected Area processes</p><p> Input into marine conservation fundraising proposals</p><p>REMUNERATION</p><p>Job Grade Grade B Salary Band Band B5</p><p>DOCUMENT INFORMATION</p><p>Created January 2013 Last revision September 2016</p><p>EMPLOYEE SIGNATURE</p><p>I confirm acceptance of the duties detailed in this Job Pack</p><p>Employee Name</p><p>Signature SUSSEX WILDLIFE TRUST</p><p>Date</p><p>JOB DESCRIPTION</p><p>Main Responsibilities</p><p> a) Liaise with The Wildlife Trust's national marine team to ensure SWT contributes positively towards The Wildlife Trusts' Living Seas Strategy. </p><p> b) Lobby decision makers to support effective implementation of the Marine Act, especially with respect to MPAs, the work of IFCAs and marine spatial planning.</p><p> c) Work with other SE Wildlife Trusts to support campaigning on marine issues and promotion of Marine Week. </p><p> d) Raise the public profile of marine ecology, through website, press, publications, talks and promotional activity. </p><p> e) Co-ordinate and deliver the Sussex Seasearch project, working with volunteer divers to gather evidence to improve knowledge, support conservation initiatives and influence marine management</p><p> f) Support SWT officers to deliver marine conservation messages through their activities. This includes contributions to planning responses for applications with potentially significant marine ecosystem impacts</p><p> g) Work with volunteers to develop and deliver new habitat and species survey and monitoring programmes to improve knowledge and gather evidence to support conservation initiatives </p><p> h) Develop volunteering capacity and participation in SWT marine work.</p><p> i) Work with the SWT fundraising team and others to develop and fundraise for marine conservation projects.</p><p> j) Promote the Trust wherever possible, in particular recruiting new members and acting as an ambassador for our vision and values SUSSEX WILDLIFE TRUST</p><p>The above list should not be regarded as exhaustive as staff may be required to carry out other such duties which may from time to time be determined by the Trust</p><p>PERSON SPECIFICATION</p><p>Essentia Desirabl Experience l e Significant, relevant experience in marine ecology and conservation x Conveying information to a variety of audiences, occasionally in difficult situations x Working across sectors (i.e. public bodies, industry, NGOs etc) x Diving qualification – PADI Dive Master or equivalent x (the job does not include diving, but knowledge of diving practices is required) Dive marshalling x Marine biological recording - either professionally or as a volunteer x Training or education work - either as a volunteer or professionally x</p><p>Essentia Desirabl Knowledge l e A degree in a marine ecology related discipline or equivalent substantial X experience of working in this field Marine Protected Areas, including Marine Conservations Zones x An understanding of marine spatial planning at UK & local levels x An appreciation of The Wildlife Trusts' Living Seas Vision x A good understanding of interests and communication channels across sectors x Knowledge of Sussex coast and marine environment X Marine biological recording and data storage methods x A familiarity/understanding of marine habitats and species associated with Sussex x An understanding of the importance of & application of Health and Safety policies x</p><p>Essentia Desirabl Skills l e Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal x A strong ability in advocacy x Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work to agreed work programmes x Good marine and coastal ecological identification skills x Good IT skills – including Windows based packages, GIS and Marine Recorder x First Aid qualification x Oxygen administration qualification x</p><p>Personal Qualities Essential Desirable SUSSEX WILDLIFE TRUST</p><p>Tactful and diplomatic x Self-disciplined and organised x Team player x A professional and result x orientated approach to work Ability to use initiative x Enthusiastic approach x JOB SPECIFICATION</p><p>Work Complexity</p><p> Undertaking a range of complex and non-routine activities with some routine tasks</p><p>Competence/Technical Skills  High level of relevant skills/knowledge  Appropriate qualification  Knowledge of GIS and Marine Recorder</p><p>Management Responsibilities </p><p> Working with others  Providing guidance to peers and volunteers</p><p>Level of Decision Making</p><p> Able to work alone and in collaboration with others  Supervised but with a degree of autonomy</p><p>Budgetary Responsibility</p><p> No budgetary responsibility  Assists with fund raising where opportunities arise</p><p>Communication & Customer Contact  Interacts with a range of contacts at varying levels e.g. NGOs, statutory agencies and volunteers  Provides advice on marine issues – some of which may be complex  Addresses large numbers of people, occasionally in potentially challenging situations SUSSEX WILDLIFE TRUST</p><p>Miscellaneous</p><p> Full driving licence required as may need to visit other Trust locations not easily accessible by public transport  This role will include weekend and occasional evening work to deliver events, courses and talks  In order for the organisation to work effectively you may be required to assist with other areas of work and therefore you should be prepared to undertake other duties appropriate to the post as delegated by the Trust  All staff are required to abide by organisational policies and procedures</p>
