<p> Technology-Connected Lesson Plan</p><p>Title: A Beep Sweep Grade Levels: 3rd Grade Curriculum Areas:  Language Arts  Writing Measurable Objectives:  TLW identify one, two, and three syllable words  TLW write a rhyming riddle using one, two, and/or three syllable words using solar system words  TLW illustrate the riddle about a planet in the solar system LA Content Standards:  Decode similar words (e.g., supper vs. super) using knowledge of basic syllabication rules (ELA-1-E1)  Write legibly in cursive or printed form, using standard margins and demonstrating appropriate spacing of letters, words, sentences, and paragraphs (ELA-3-E1)  Spell grade-appropriate words, including: · multisyllabic words made up of both base words and roots and common prefixes and suffixes Technology Standards: Technology Productivity Tools (Resource Access and Utilization Foundation Skill) ¨ Students use technology tools to enhance learning, increase productivity, and promote creativity. ¨ Students use productivity tools to work collaboratively in developing technology-rich, authentic, student-centered products. 4. Technology Research Tools (Linking and Generating Knowledge Foundation Skill) ¨ Students use appropriate technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources. ¨ Students use technology tools to process data and report results. ¨ Students evaluate and select new information resources and technological innovations based on the appropriateness to specific tasks.</p><p>1 Technology Connection:  EBSCO  Kid Pix  Power Point (optional)  www.Dictionary.com Procedures:  TTW read part of the story A Hinky Pinky. This will explain to the students what a riddle is and begin to explain what a “Beep Sweep” is. TTW then explain that a “Beep Sweep is a one syllable answer to a rhyming riddle. A Beepy Sweepy is a two syllable answer to a rhyming riddle. A Beepety Sweepety is a three syllable answer to a rhyming riddle.  TTW then allow the students use EBSCO to search for pictures, videos, and articles that relate to the solar system.  After exploring the solar system in EBSCO, TSW then use their explanation of how to create a Beep Sweep and begin to create one.  TSW create their picture and riddle in Kid Pix, save it as a jpeg and then place it into a Power Point slide. They will insert a symbol or box to cover the answer. TSW also make that box move, using Custom Animation, to reveal the answer when ready.  Another variation to this is to save your Riddle and picture, then Open the Slide Show in Kid Pix and bring your picture into it. Print it out as a Card/Booklet, 4 slides per page.  The students will then cut out their slide and use it to complete the Structure Quiz Quiz Trade.
