<p> Algebra IA Common Core Syllabus</p><p> This is a two-semester course covering the Algebra 1 Common Core California </p><p>State Standards. </p><p>. First semester will cover important prerequisite skills taught in Pre-Algebra</p><p>. Second semester will cover Exponents, Radicals and Polynomials, </p><p>Quadratic Functions, and end with Probability and Statistics. </p><p> We will be using the Springboard Algebra 1 Common Core Consumable </p><p>Textbook as the framework for instruction, but there will be worksheets to </p><p> supplement the textbook throughout the course. You will be writing in the </p><p> textbook and on the worksheets. Your book will stay in the classroom as we will </p><p> only use portions of the book (packets) as needed. You will keep the packets in </p><p> your folder until they are to be turned in.</p><p> Recommended Daily Materials: </p><p>. 2 pencils</p><p>. 1 pen (not red)</p><p>. 1 highlighter (any color)</p><p>. 1 three-ring binder with: pockets, lined paper, & graph paper Assignments: </p><p>. You are responsible for completing classwork as well as homework as </p><p> often as it is assigned. </p><p>. All work will be referred to as an “Assignment”. There is no separation of </p><p> classwork and homework. Whatever you do not finish in class you will </p><p> take home to finish. </p><p> Tests/Quizzes:</p><p>. We will have approximately 12 quizzes and three major tests as well as a </p><p>Cumulative Final Exam. </p><p> Absent Days:</p><p>. If you know in advance that you will be absent, please make arrangements with me. Since this is a new textbook, a new way of learning, and a new way of teaching, it is very important that you do not fall behind in your work.</p><p>. Make-Up Work: . With an excused absence, you have the same amount of days to make up the work as you were absent. So, if you are absent for 2 days, and then you have 2 days to catch up. </p><p>. If you are absent on a review day, then you are required to take the EA or PT scheduled for the following day.</p><p>. If you are absent on an EA or PT day, you will take the assessment during the day that you return to school. </p><p> Tutoring</p><p>. Lunch: Mr. Derderian’s room Monday through Friday</p><p>.</p><p> Grades</p><p>Grading Scales: Grading Weight: A 90 – 100% Assignments 25% B 80 – 89% Tests 45% C 70 – 79% Quizzes 15% D 60 – 69% Final Exam 20% F 0 – 59%</p><p>Class Rules:</p><p>1. All cell phones and music devices must be silent and out of sight during </p><p> class. Cell phone calculators cannot be used on EAs or PTs. Any disruption</p><p> due to an electronic device is cause for loss of that device. 2. I will dismiss you when the floor is clean and seats are in the correct spots.</p><p>The bell does not dismiss you.</p><p>3. Respect your teacher, your peers, our classroom, and yourself at all times. </p><p>4. Food and beverages are allowed, but gum is not.</p><p>5. Cell phones must be left on my desk before you use the restroom. Always </p><p> ask permission before leaving the classroom. </p><p>6. Obey the Valencia High School tardy policy. Your fourth tardy sends you </p><p> to OR (opportunity room). </p><p>7. All students must follow the Hart District's academic integrity policy.
