Achieved</p><p>Progress in delivering proposals to improve breastfeeding services and rates </p><p>Validated Data as at Q4 09/10: </p><p> Initiation Rates are 70.1%. There was a data quality anomaly at Qu.2 09/10 which was not repeated in Q 3 and 4 but may need investigation to ensure data quality remains exemplary Initiation data completeness – currently excellent at 100% Breastfeeding Coverage at 6-8 weeks – currently excellent at 99.5%, is above target and well above the national average Breastfeeding Prevalence at 6-8 weeks is at 43.8%, just below the national average of 45.2% for the equivalent period Breastfeeding drop off rate (the difference between initiation rate and 6-8 week prevalence rate in percentage points) is at 26.3% i.e. better than the national average of 27.5% Early booking remains a challenge for Maternity Services Solihull ‘Be a Star’ social Marketing Campaign to encourage young women to breastfeed. Peer Support across the borough is delivered in partnership with Children’s Centres Peer Support: Solihull is working with the National Childbirth Trust in a project to train peer supporters from within groups least likely to breastfeed. This commenced in Sept 2010.</p><p>Performance Against 6-8 week Prevalence Indicator:</p><p>RAG: RED</p><p>Breastfeeding initiation targets have been met. However, the 6-8 week prevalence stretched target has not been achieved.
