<p> 7 th Grade Choir Unit Plan – Unit 3</p><p>Benchmarks/Standards: Ohio Academic Content Standards, 7th Grade</p><p> Creating (2CE) – Identify the style and historical period of various music examples.</p><p> Creating (3CE) – Recognize and identify historical and cultural contexts (e.g., time and place of music event) that have influenced music.</p><p> Performing (1PR) – Independently or collaboratively, perform a varied repertoire of music, representing diverse genres and cultures and showing expression and technical accuracy at a level that includes modest ranges and change of tempo, key and meter.</p><p> Performing (2PR) – Perform accurately, independently or collaboratively, with good posture producing and appropriate tone quality. </p><p> Performing (4PR) – Read, write, and perform rhythmic (including dotted rhythms) and melodic patterns in a variety of meters.</p><p> Reflecting (3RE) – Develop criteria based on elements of music to support personal preferences for specific music works.</p><p>Content/Concepts/Skills: Unit III focuses on building the students technical execution as well as being able to identify they style and historical period of music examples. They will be asked to recognize the time and place of musical events within history and why they have influenced music. They should, as always, be able to use correct terminology when discussing music. Lessons will begin focusing on rhythmic patterns using dotted rhythms, helping to them to become more independent musicians ready to move to higher degree of difficulty in their music education. They will also be asked to develop criteria that will help them support personal preferences in music. Critical Questions: 1. I can identify the style and historical period of various music examples. 2. I can recognize and identify historical and cultural contexts that have influenced music. 3. I can perform my music, independently or collaboratively showing expression and technical accuracy at a level that includes modest changes in tempo, key and meter. 4. I can perform, independently or collaboratively, with good posture producing an appropriate tone quality. 5. I can read, write, and perform rhythmic patterns, including dotted patterns in a variety of meters. 6. I can develop criteria based on elements of music to support personal preferences for specific music works.</p><p>Timeline: Jan. 7 – Sight Readings Begin Jan. 8 – Unit 3 Pre-Test Jan. 11 – Vocabulary/Articulation Worksheet Jan. 24/25 – Vocabulary/Articulation Worksheet Due Feb. 11-15 – Unit 3 Singing Test Mar. 11-15 – Unit 3 Post-Test Mar. 15-16 – Dinner Theatre</p><p>Assessments: Students will be assessed in a variety of ways for each unit. This unit will again focus on the completion of a vocabulary and articulation worksheet, and a singing test. Students will also once again sight-read the same pre-selected piece for the director they did at the start of the year to track their improvement. This will be graded but again, not factor into their grade for the nine weeks. As it did in the previous units, students’ daily progress and participation during rehearsal will be a portion of their grade. We will complete the unit with a Post-Test and the annual Dinner Theatre (graded). As always, students will receive a grade for their Pre-Test, but it will not be included in the course grade.</p>
